Here are some traditionally wise recommendations. In no particular order and off the top of my head:

CRUSH (GRE)- Kingdom of the Kings (Wonderful Epic Metal from my country)
VALKYRIA (RUS) - s/t (Killer symphonic Speed Metal)
PAUL CHAIN (ITA)- Alkahest (The doomiest release by this Master of all Occult)
POWER CRUE (GRE) - Alive Again (A demo of 3 - totally killer - songs.
INNERWISH (GRE) - Waiting for the Dawn (Smooth and fine White Power Metal)
PENANCE (US) - Parallel Corners (Doom METAL!)
BROCAS HELM (US) - Ghost Story (Amazing Demo!)
TARAMIS (AUS)- Stretch of the Imagination (Highly energetic Progressive Metal. If you like in-your-face bass guitar, check it out.)
BLOOD FARMERS - s/t (Filthy Doom Metal)

I'm pretty sure we've been through this topic at least once, but here we go again:

GRAVEN IMAGE - Emperor Of Eternity (if you like MANILLA ROAD this one's for you)

DESTINYS END - Breath Deep The Dark (same reason, but replace MANILLA ROAD with HELSTAR)

TWISTED TOWER DIRE - The Curse Of Twisted Tower
LORDIAN GUARD - Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God
SYRIS - same

And my speed metal favorite of the decade:

CRANIUM - Speed Metal Sentence
Where were you in '79 when the dam began to burst

Definitely Slander. Blazon released a cool album the same year.

Quite a few nice underground US metal releases during these years too, Arson, Villan, etc.

(and it's not what you'll want to hear, but SABBAT!!!)

There's tons of death and black metal releases that are totally killer from that decade, but since they don't count as 'real metal' in your book it would be quite pointless to start listing bands & albums.

As for Thrash Metal, at least in Eastern Europe many bands got the chance to release a LP in the early 90s. In case you haven't listened, you should try Brian, Debustrol, Torr, Root, 2nd Kryptor, Arakain, Gladiator,...Nothing outstanding, but good stuff....

For me the first half of the 90s was still very good with many great albums being released (from that period I also like the albums of the supergroups like Slayer, Maiden, Priest, Destruction, etc...).
From the top of my head, you can try:

Secrecy - both albums
Credo - Paying For Everything
Manilla Road - The Courts Of Chaos
Odyssey - s/t
Death SS - Heavy Demons
Gypsy Kyss - When Passion Murdered Innocence (epic Hard Rock)
Helicon - s/t
Crush - Kingdom Of the Kings
Fear Of God - Within The Veil
No Return - Psychological Torment
Poltergeist - Nothing Lasts Forever
Addictive - Pity Of Man
Rata Blanca - Guerrero Del Arco Iris
Power Metal - Power One
Saxo - Satu Perjuangan
Pokolgep - Metal Az Ezs
Metal Lady - s/t

When icons like Bruce Dickinson or Rob Halford left their bands, it all went down...
From that period real classics for me are:

Death SS - Do What Thou Wilt
King Diamond - The Spider's Lullabye
Aria - Noch' Koroche Dnya
Sinner - The Nature Of Evil
Lordian Guard - s/t
Twisted Tower Dire - The Curse Of Twisted Tower
Tarantula - Light Beyond The Dark

Don't know if I'm the only one but I don't like them at all.
They've got 2 or 3 good moments, that's it.

(i.m.o. of course)

HARDPÉGE from france did release their one and only record in 1999, very good Heavy Metal...recommended by me. :D

Definitely, but, don't know why, but I overlooked 'em back in the day. I'm starting to rediscover 'em.

BOMBARDER - Bez Milosti LP (1992)

That's outstanding speed/thrash/heavy metal, but only for those who like primal, primitive and straight-forward thrash similar to early Sodom. Also, if you like early TORR, this one is a must.

Heard, interesting band, but somehow way too much shredding for my taste. Heard that the main guy now have some doom metal band inspired by Reverend Bizarre, need to check it out.

Minus the preachy orthodox christian crap I can't stand there, it's great record overall and their best, IMO.

I don't really think that the years '90-'92 should count for this thread. Yeah, I realize that the period was still part of the 90's but the sound of the 80's was still there for the most part. It would be more interesting to see a list of only post '93 releases. That's when the sound of bands became different and solidified as the majority of albums were no longer recorded using analog equipment.

What do fellow Corroseumites think of this piece of US metal?

I know it is not remembered as fondly as their first or especially second album but I think it's a damn fine piece of US steel. Not really modern (except that first track - weird one) and quite heavy at times. My favourites on this one would be the scorchers - like "Silent Rage", "Broken Neck" and especially "Politics Of Pain" with some molten solo work. Like the aggressive snarl in the vocals too!
