My first choice for this thread would be Flotsam and Jetsam, Doomsday slays from start to finsh, after that they just got worse with each album.

Re: Bands that has made only ONE really good album
ok much here depends on own tastes but from your list I think that Exodus 2nd and 3rd are quite good, Attacker 2nd is far better than the first because of the vocals and Savage Grace 2nd is great as other just wrote.J.K. wrote:I noticed that some bands only make one real good album. Some of them became legendary even if they do crap during 20 years after putting out their gem.
For me:
EXODUS (only the first LP is really killer)
GUNS'N'ROSES (again the first LP is the best and only must have)
BLESSED DEATH (First album)
ATTACKER (Battle's, which is their first if I remember well)
RATT (Out of The Cellar)
SAVAGE GRACE (Their first LP)
DEATH ANGEL (Their first LP)
MORTAL SIN (first LP)
ONSLAUGHT (Power From Hell, which again is their first I think)
QUIET RIOT - Metal Health
DIAMOND HEAD - The White Album
That's all for now, give your contributions and opinion.
Same for Onslaught, The force is a must have.
Also Death Angel 2nd is killer, maybe not the same style than the first but very well done with many good tracks. Sometimes a change in music can be great.
About Diamond Head I totally disagree, because this is an awesome band that has shown that they can do many styles but always with great results. Canterbury has epic folk feel but is was played with class. Even Death and progress Lp is very good.
Also warning about Armored Saint, Delirious nomad perhaps is better than their first lp!!
Here some bands about the topic subject: (not only legendary, but also obscure bands)
Exciter - H.M. maniac (the other Lps are not bad but the first is far better)
Testament - the legacy
Savage - Loose 'n' lethal
Gaskin - End of the world (the 2nd isn't so good, but 3rd is quite ok)
Jaguar - Power games (buy their 2nd lp if you like Aor )
Unreal terror - heavy and dangerous

May the Lords of light be with you
Not going to mention even one record, this is a topic that will never have any consistency, there will be 5 individuals claiming each of a band's 5 separate albums to be THE ONE that trumps the other 4, so there isn't any point. And frankly I don't care if anyone agrees with me on these issues at the moment.
Are you the tyrant, who cast them to the sea?

It's not only one good, but only one REALLY good.Nasty Uwe wrote:"Practice what you preach" is not bad at all, but with more catchy songs.Sgt. Kuntz wrote: TESTAMENT - The Legacy
So I would not consider TESTAMENT as an "only one good record" band.
Seriously, what I mean is bands that made one 9/10 or 10/10 album, and then weaker album.
The perfect examples are:
EXODUS: none other albums in their catalogue can defy their first. There is a GAP between the first and the rest, EVEN IF the rest is not pure crap.
IRON MAIDEN: In their case, there is a BUNCH of 10/10 or albums that can stand the comparison between them.
To make things more precise about this thread.

Raven: I didn't like The Force by Onslaught. But yes, this thread is a matter of taste

Yes, it's not aggressive at all, but still a good record.Sgt. Kuntz wrote:More catchy? You actually mean lame and non-aggressive, right?Nasty Uwe wrote:"Practice what you preach" is not bad at all, but with more catchy songs.Sgt. Kuntz wrote: TESTAMENT - The Legacy

Apart from that I do also prefer "The legacy" when thinking about what TESTAMENT record I'd like to listen to.

I didn't understand a word but perhaps it is a private joke.GJ wrote:Now you've gotten me all confused. Where's the dictator of The Corroseum? Save us from the bigots* and intruders!

Exclusive only to me. (Since I don't speak even one word English)
No jokes aside - guess I'm just trolling around. For an oldie metaller like me, the mentioning of bands like Guns'n'Roses or Ratt is deeply inflicted with "no-no" and very tabu. Even if the Guns debut is pretty good (except for that awful voice).
I believe younger fans of metal may be more forgiving as they tend to view the entire eighties as a "cool" thing. Much in the same way I think of the seventies, and thus having no problem mentioning Black Sabbath and Starz in the same sentence.
Ah, everything's clear now.

Ah, everything's clear now.
When I was "younger" metalheads, I tend to be more narrow-minded and selective. Now I don't care and don't give a fuck about "this band is lame or not" and other things. I'm completely over this... I got nothing to prove and yes I like RATT, the eighties are over, where are the bands that criticized Glam back then ? They got limo and bitches now
So, I can't be agree with your point regarding the "coolness" of the 80's and I do make a difference between intended commercial stuff and true artists Don't worry about that.

Ratt and Quiet Riot might be good at what they do, but they are not metal. In Into Battle we are discussing about heavy metal, for non-metal discussion there is Land of Mystery. It doesn't have to do with being open minded or having to prove something. Stucking to tags generally does suck, on the other hand you can't call anything with two guitars and a bass heavy metal.
