Kraken (Canada)

Of course most of you know the legendary cult canadian band Kraken from Toronto. They formed in 1980 and released some great demo stuff between 1982-84. Some tape rips can be found on the internet but in their myspace there are some high quality mp3s.

I read that they are going to re-release their old stuff on CD in January 2010!!!

I think this is a very underrated band.

Thanks for reminding me of these guys! I need to revisit my old bootleg LP sometime soon, it's been way too long since.

That bootleg LP is one of my top 3 albums of all time. A CD rerelease with improved sound would be very appreciated!

It's a cool LP, some songs are quite similar though. The good ones are great.

I agree good lp, I don't listen to it much but when I do I enjoy it even with that "muffled" sound it has. I believe I have the red version, I think their is also a yellow version. I'll have to check out their myspace site, what's their address incase I can't find it?

Great band, but has anyone ever wondered why there is a Dragon instead of a... Kraken?

Actually, I have only heard the first demo, got it on CD-R... killer!!

The first demo, the 3 song ine, is killer. Immortal. I've never heard the bootleg LP, but I have a later demo with 8 or so songs on it and it's ok but not nearly as good as the first one. I also have a soundboard live recording where they play mostly covers.

so its confirmed the official release? if so, its already on my 2010 list :P

i love when early 80s metal bands had still some glimpses of 70s feeling in their music, i got their stuff on Cdr years ago from a very good freind of mine, since then, their music has been growing more in me, great band for sure Abandonded is a fucken killer track!

just gave the bootleg LP a spin (I have a red version), since I did not listen to it for a long time...
Really solid stuff, but not killer for me - my favourite track was 'Warriors'.
Need to find a copy of the first demo to see if that is really as great as described, hope I will find a working link in the Poisonoise section

There re going to be released 2 CDs by Arkeyn Steel Records. The first will be the 1983 demo album (the bootleg LP) and the second CD will be some demo stuff the band recorded between 1980-1983.
