On The Slide?

Post by bigfootkit »

A friend of mine recently mentioned to me that he wants to learn to play slide guitar as he loves the sound and felt it would give his band something unique in the Metal field.
That got me wondering if there are any Heavy Metal bands which feature slide guitarists? I can't think of any off the top of my head, perhaps someone knows of such a group?
You hear it used sparingly for atmosphere occassionally or on the odd intro or outro, but not too often.
Plenty of slide players in Hard Rock bands certainly, and in Blues obviously, but i've thus far drawn a blank on Metal guys.
Also, perhaps we could get some suggestions for great Metal songs featuring upfront slidework?
Just as a little something for my friend to aspire to.

Kirk Hammett used slide on alot of the Load lp but that's nothing to aspire to! Your right, I can't think of any off the top of my head either.

I know there are quite a few, but none come to mind at the moment.

Ministry used a slide guitar. I think it was on Jesus Built My Hotrod, maybe some other songs too.

And I can't think of anything myself.

Funny I was just outside shoveling the driveway and listening to Count Ravens Destruction Of The Void and it sounds like he plays a little slide on a couple of the solo's.

Slide guitar can sound kind of cool but I can't imagine it working well with heavy metal unless you're going for a way down deep south hilly billy rock infused thing. That being said please prove me wrong!

It sounded awesome on Captain Beyond's "Myopic Void".

There was a little snow the other day here, but for some reason not in Edmonton, I'm lazy but not that lazy!
