4 best?
possibly VOIVOD (ok, they were all over the place but who cares?), INFERNÄL MÄJESTY, SINDROME and SABBAT (UK).
When it comes to Thrash I'm a bit picky. There's tons of godly bands who only released one masterpiece and then quickly deteriorated, like ANACRUSIS, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, METAL CHURCH, QUO VADIS, NUCLEAR ASSAULT etc. Not to mention all the one-off album bands. I think I'm bigger fan of certain Thrash albums than Thrash bands to tell the truth, more so than when it comes to classic HM.

I prefer more technical stuff and the early German classic bands with their black/thrash sound. I find 80% of Bay area bands very mediocre, possibly my one of my least favorites styles of metal. I adore ''Show no mercy" and "Reign in blood'' from Slayer and that's enough as far as it goes with them. Some of favorites are:
KREATOR (everything until "Coma of souls"), SODOM (most albums are incredible but there are also a couple of them which are shit), DESTRUCTION (the EP and ''Infernal Overkill" strictly), HALLOWS EVE (first 2), HOLY TERROR, HEATHEN (1st one only), CORONER, TOXIK (1st), FLOTSAM & JETSAM (1st), SADUS (everything until their reunion) and a few more...

I agree i vote for German Metal because of the brutality, and for the technicity.I disagree that Slayer ever released mediocre albums even the post-Seasons era is great.Yes KREATOR i agree until Coma Of Souls.,Destruction's Eternal Devastation is almost equal to Infernal Overkill but after it they declined.CORONER- i don't like this band, so much technicity (i will give some hearing though in the near future again).Flotsam And Jetsam No Place For Disgrace has some tracks let's say half of albums which really slayes.ION BRITTON wrote:I like more technical stuff and the early German classic bands with their black/thrash sound. My favourite thrash album: KREATOR: Pleasure To Kill
But following are also damn perfect:
SLAYER: Show No Mercy
DARK ANGEL: Darkness Descends
FORBIDDEN: FORBIDDEN EVIL
SODOM: All 80's releases
DESTRUCTION: Infernal Overkill
RAZOR: Evil Invaders
DESTRUCTOR: Maximum Destruction
BLIND ILLUSION: The Sane Asylum
There are tons more of course but these are the ones that come to mind right now...

Evil Invaders yeah.DESTRUCTOR-never liked this band. Also from Dark Angel am i the only one worshipping We Have Arrived?I prefer the NTAPA-NTOUPA drumming of Jack Schwarz instead of one of Gene Hoglan's.Darkness Descends is almost equal i think to the debut.

Although making a choice is difficult, I'll have to go for:
Infernal majesty 'None shall defy'
Hobbs' Angel of Death 'Hobbs' Angel of Death'
Destruction 'Mad Butcher' ep
Sacrifice (Can) - Forward To Termination
Sodom - In the sign of Evil
Cranium - Speed Metal Slaughter (fairly new but for me killer release)

I 100 % agree with you, 2nd wave of Bay Area Thrash was boring, bands were getting more and more technical and they lose the original Thrash Metal feelings : aggression and spontaneousness.
Re: Your favourite thrash bands
The ultimate thrash metal album must be metallica - kill 'em all. It has everything. the speed, aggression, melodical touch, you name it!

Oops in my last post here I forgot the following megaclassics:
IRON ANGEL: Hellish Crossfire
ANGEL DUST: Into The Dark Past
MORBID SAINT: Spectrum Of Death
BULLDOZER: IX
tons of brazilien acts and I'm sure the japanese released some great thrash too in the heydays, but unfortunately I haven't checked them out yet...
