"Classics" that leave you cold
"Classics" that leave you cold
What are those albums that are universally accepted as masterpieces among the 'knowledgeable' metal audience (i.e. not those albums with blatant mainstream appeal) that you never got into? For me, the first one to come to mind when pondering this topic is Dark Angel's 'Time Does Not Heal'. It's so calculated and clinical, and around third or fourth song I just can't stand no more.

I don't consider this one a classic either, nice debut, nothing more. The second one is a merciless classic!!!!!!omegaman wrote:Dark Angel's 'Time Does Not Heal'. It's so calculated and clinical, and around third or fourth song I just can't stand no more.

this thread is blasphemy to the bone!
to contribute something constructive, I never got really into the first SAXON Albums - can't explain but they just don't kick in for me. And for years I considered "Stained Class" nothing but boring, in that case maybe I needed to grow into it..

Agree 100%. I got that album when it came out and tried so hard to like it.omegaman wrote:For me, the first one to come to mind when pondering this topic is Dark Angel's 'Time Does Not Heal'. It's so calculated and clinical, and around third or fourth song I just can't stand no more.
I can't agree with anything else though, except maybe Saxon. I don't think any of their albums are really that great, but if you took a few songs from each you could make 2 or 3 killer albums.
Yeah, my impression exactly. Dark Angel weren't exactly the most skilled songwriters, I think. The riffs may be good, but the songs bore the hell out of me. Darkness Descends = avarage songwriting + good riffs + energy of a minor nuclear incident, so I'll take it. TDNH somewhat lacks that third component.
