I'd really go with Amber, Incunabula or even Tri Repetae ++ before I go for Chiastic Side, personally. Best case scenario, this Autechre-best-of I've made for myself.

I actually had no idea who Autreche are, but now that I've checked what they play, I don't get it either.

Well, Heavy Metal is my music. I even dare to say that Heavy Metal is ME. But this doesn't prevent me from enjoying and appreciating other kinds of music for what they are.
I have stood many times on the edge of Too-Much-HM and I have gazed into the abyss below (e.g. pointing out weak moments in Warlord) so I know that I need a change of pace, be it rock, punk, folk music, ambient, intelligent electronica etc., as long as it is good.

Autechre has written some very challenging music.

That's great! For me though, although metal has always been MY music from the start, I've also tried to get into all sorts of music as well including ambient industrial, alternative blah blah blah but have realized that I dont have time looking for this music, there is way too much great undiscovered metal still to be found :)

I at least need the ambient to counteract the metal here and there. The rest are healthy interests (contemporary classical, dark wave, electronica) but I could theoretically do without. I also need the progressive rock, though!

The "deserted island" concept is just a more interesting way to put "best ten albums ever". That's obviously what everyone would go with. I know I would. These are the ten I will never get tired of:

JUDAS PRIEST - Painkiller
BLIND GUARDIAN - Somewhere far Beyond
GOTHAM CITY - The Unknown
MERCYFUL FATE - Don't Break the Oath
QUEENSRŸCHE - Operation Mindcrime
CANDLEMASS - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
MANILLA ROAD - Open the Gates
RUNNING WILD - Death or Glory
SAVATAGE - Streets: A Rock Opera
IRON MAIDEN - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Chroming Rose “Pressure” LP found! :D
