POWERMAD - SLAUGHTERHOUSE
Simply perfection!!! This riff was the jingle of MTVs "At the movies" for a long time, it was featured in a great scene of the flick "Wild at Heart" w/Nicolas Cage, and it was on some other TV Spot as well in germany, think it was for FOCUS Magazine. Seems like everyone NOT into Metal saw the eternal quality in this riff/track, but not the metalszene, the band never got the attention they deserved.

GRINDER - AGENT ORANGE
DARK TRANQUILLITY - THE GaLLERY (first second to last second, the whole album is a riff-fest unrivaled, I worship this record - the best album of the 90ies!)

Agreed, the opening "Punish my heaven" is exactly the song this thread is talking about.

Yeah, I agree also.
I havent listened to 'The Gallery' since the mid 90's, but I remember it being my fav album from that year. I think it's time to put it on tonight!
I have a Ltd Ed CD version of it in a 10" case & the gatefold LP.
Pity they went gay after that!!

For me, the opening drum lick of "Where Eagles Dare" is a perfect album intro (and it was a brilliant way for master skinsman Nicko to announce his presence as "the new guy" in the band!)...
And in the "quiet lead bit that builds up and lets you know good stuff is coming" department, I love the brief "Beyond the Altar" intro on Abattoir's "The Only Safe Place" album...it just works for me...
