Awesome Death Metal !!!

Post by The Sentinel »

At times I like to listen to great death metal from the past. Bands that manage to create an atmosphere of utter uglinesses and rottenness, I'm aiming at bands from the 80's and begin 90's. Some faves of mine are:

MORBID ANGEL: Alters Of Madness: Say what you want, but this is a fucking CLASSIC.

REPULSION: Horrified: AWESOME, one of the best ever IMO: Can someone provide me an original LP?

MORPHEUS: Adipocere 7": Great raging American death metal.

AUTOPSY: Severed Survival: Another classic of flesh ripping REAL DEATH METAL.

And many many more...

What are your faves in this field?

Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick

Therion - ... Of Darkness

Darkthrone - Soulside Journey

Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise

many more, too ...
I am ... the One you warned me of

Entombed - Left Hand Path, Clandestine
God Macabre - The Winterlong
I'm a fanboy of Vader and Hypocrisy, so anything by them is killer. :)

(not from the 80s or early 90s, but still awesome)
Yyrkoon - Occult Medicine
Necrophagist - Epitaph

Absolute hammer of a record.
I could list albums until my keyboard breaks, so I will mention the one record I feel is the essence of Death Metal; that is, having your head smashed against a grave repeatedly by a rotting, festering corpse ... Grave's 'Into the Grave'

Here's some of my favourites:

MORBID ANGEL - Blessed are the sick
DEATH - Scream bloody gore
DEICIDE - Deicide
CARCASS - Symphonies of sickness
POSSESSED - Seven churches
OBITUARY - Slowly we rot
MASTER - Unreleased album of '85
TREBLINKA - Severe abominations 7"
BOLT THROWER - In battle there's no law
ATHEIST - Unquestionable presence
INCANTATION - Diabolical conquest
MAGNUS - I was watching my death

If you consider SARCOFAGO's I.N.R.I. pure death metal (i personally don't) then put it right after MORBID ANGEL.
Good against Evil, Evil sure to win

hail to the kings !!!! Menace Unseen !!!!!!!! UaaaaaaahhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

As for other killer Death Metal:
I am fascinated from Necroccultus (Mexico) debut CD, as well as everything from later Magnus (Poland). There is also a split LP from Sanctum/Stormcrow, some bands heavily rooted in the Crustcore scene but which have recorded a pure Bolt Thrower - Warmaster Tribute Split LP. With the crusty edge and the killer guitar sound. A masterpiece.

Oh by the way, for some old Nocturnus worshippers: Iron Pegasus released the After Death CD with Mike Browning. Very very good release indeed.

Oh I forgot this one! Great album.

I consider INRI as early black metal or "blackened" metal
but if that album counts it would be my favorite DM along with scream bloody gore and altars.

Edit. "Transgressor - Ether For Spacegoat" is pretty good too.

Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Morbid Angel - Abominations Of Desolation
Possessed - Seven Churches

...and the list goes on and on (Entombed, Tiamat, Convulse etc. etc.)

for newer bands who carry on the legacy of great DM I would recommend
Drowned - vicfsera terrae Demo (soon on CD/ vinyl) and Repugnant - Epitome Of Darkness

Too much bands to make a list!

So I'll note only three excellent bands that have some similarities:

MORBIUS, THE CHASM and ARGHOSLENT (their next album to be out in September promises to be even better than "Incorrigible Bigotry").
Gott ist tot.
