There's Morphos from French Guyana, I ran across posts by a member on a gear forum, haven't heard them though. Not on the Archives, but bands from the other Guyanas (Guyana and Surinam) are listed. Also, although on the Metal Archives (I don't know if all the bands are on there but there are bands l...

Funny Spellings

Where did it all come from? I'm not talking about umlauts, just band names spelled in a way that is not the normal way to spell those words. For the 1960s I can think of Jimi Hendrix, the Byrds and the Monkees, there were quite a few bands in the 1970s, and in the 1980s it became common. So the ques...

And of course the infamous very first Elixir demo. I don't think even anyone here has heard it.

Keep in mind that it came out in 2004, so it was a while ago. I've finally come to the conclusion that pressings of 500 are not really limited, they are standard for underground releases of any style. Pressings of less than 500 are usually a lie because they cost much more to press per record and mo...

I never noticed her accent, she's such a screamer, her voice makes even the songs with not that interesting lyrics sound good. By the way, what is this? It looks like some kind of reunion or one-off gig, the video was uploaded in 2008 according to what it says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeOAFN...

MAYHEM, BEHERIT & SARCOFAGO, VON etc.. were the tail end of the original BM sound, but at the time I always considered them 'Death Metal', even Bathory, but with Satanic imagery. What do you mean "but"? At the time 90% of death metal used satanic imagery. Anyways, I would say Bathory ...

Chords/tab thread

This is where we post how to play songs that are not available anywhere else on the internet (and not just talk about it like in the other thread). I'll start with with Chrissy Zebby Tembo and the Ngozi Family's "Troublemaker": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muQFi8JOOkw (power chords): F G...

I should pay more attention to lyrics i guess, thanks for the samples anyway. I'm not convinced about BALCK DEATH though, they might be just a little bit too much over the top (or even comical) to be a christian band. I was listening to that yesterday, yeah, I think they were Christian, in their ow...

CDs were dead 2 or 3 years ago and now they also sell again and there is rare stuff that gets prices like 15-20 € or more again.... Not only have I not seen this, stuff that was priced 15-20 a few years ago (recent reissues, however rare) sometimes get priced at 50-80, as well as non-rare vinyl stu...

What ever happened to nwobhm.info?

It was a great website, not only the list of bands, but newspaper/magazine clippings, gig flyers, etc. Not organised that well, but still a lot of info not available elsewhere.

It seems down for good now (I guess), but a few months ago it was also down, then back up.

Female-fronted NWOBHM

Despite the well-known video of that guy who said women have no place in metal, there were quite a few bands: Girlschool: no comment necessary War Machine: really good, may not be considered NWOBHM by some because of the dates Siege: really horrible She: really poppy Thunderstick: not too great, not...

To me KEA is speed metal, but with thrash guitar. Anyways, a lot of Metallica does sound like NWOBHM at 45, with a bit of Killing Joke thrown in, some somewhat later Metallica even sounds like Cynic and Zenith at normal speed.
