I would say 1986 because there were still albums which came out in that style in 1986, in some cases debut albums by bands which had been around for years. releases 1986: http://www.metal-archives.com/search/advanced/searching/albums?bandName=&releaseTitle=&releaseYearFrom=1986&releaseMo...

I read somewhere that NWOBHM was a pun based on the New Wave, you know, Adam Ant, Bow Wow Wow and all those groups.

Skull Branded Pirates

I got their CD not too long ago, took about 3 weeks, although that may be the fault of the postal service from my country. I am really glad I bought it, great nwobhm-influenced pirate metal, I recommend this CD. Cheap too. And the only time I've ever order a CD by mail without the jewel case breakin...

It does seem kind if pricey, and it even says the DVD is not the greatest quality. It seems to be several CDs though. Only one song online? That's pretty poor if they expect people to buy that stuff. Anyways, I do like the crappy 1990s style website. There's also apparently several bands with that n...

The first Gnome demo (black metal - Japan) seems to be hard to find, the one with the songs "Down of Dream" and "Emptiness". oh i used to have this on tape...better than the second demo! you should try gorugoth from japan (doom black/death from 91-96, first demo was partly grind...

I still want the whole second Sanctus (UK) demo, even if it's not very metal. The first Gnome demo (black metal - Japan) seems to be hard to find, the one with the songs "Down of Dream" and "Emptiness" I would also like to hear the Lynx "Metal with Bite" demo, and also ...

There's also 3 songs on the Tredegar Remix+Rebirth CD, but I didn't know it was a female until I read the liner notes.

Although I was kind of hoping for more examples. I don't think it's true that it was all to avoid similar band names, as people in the 1980s who liked Def Leppard usually also liked Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix (even if those who liked the latter two may not like the first), you get the point I hope.

I'll add Reincarnate to the list of bands Metallica sounded like, especially since the Reincarnate demo and 7" were released in 1981 and 1982. They did sound like this band at 45 rpm (or maybe 78 since the single was already 45) two or three years later.
