Re: Who's Cranking the New CIRITH UNGOL Today?

Didn't get my copy of 'Forever Black' until Friday but it was worth the wait, i'm really liking it a lot. Initial impression is that they've preserved their trademark sound perfectly, but also added a couple of interesting new wrinkles as well. Nothing feels out of place or forced & the songwriting ...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

This band opened for some of the biggest bands in the day, but for some reason are not that well known. bPpQ9W0ju4M This ties in to something I was thinking about this just the other day, how so many of the bands from the really early days were just abandoned by the audience after their initial imp...

Re: Now Playing Thread

Is that not another one of your drawings?!?! Remember when we would cover our school bag and books with band logos? I might start covering the doors here! School bags, school books, pencil cases, benches in the playground ,chairs & desks if we could get away with it..train & bus seats,....par...

Re: Now Playing Thread

Hey, Kit! Is that pencil you're using? Or crayons? Looks pretty good for chasing boredom. Thanks Noisenik, i used nothing but the finest materials, a Bic biro on a jaffa cake box. ULTRA : Ultra https://i.postimg.cc/zfHdvn8Q/Ultra.jpg Considering when it was recorded, this has really cool stuf...

Re: Now Playing Thread

Probably not anyone's favourite Voivod album, nor is it mine, but a very consistent collection and it's passed the test of time surprisingly well, sounding far better to me now than it did when it was initially released. 'Facing Up' would likely even make my personal Voivod top 10 songs now. https:/...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

I know (and have) the first three Epitaph, T2, A.F.T. (actually one of my all time faves from the 70s!!) and Luigi Anada Boys (here I only have the rerecordings, the original stuff seems to be hard to find). I really do LOVE all the mentioned albums/bands as I seem to never get enough of this sound...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

One of the great things about the bands from this era was how unrestricted they were before the rules were set. You could have a really heavy band who just happened to have a violin player, or a brass section, latin percussion, or perhaps every other song was acoustic, and not only was this accepted...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

Not as old as most of the (great) stuff that already has been posted, but still counting as Proto Metal, I think. El Reloj from Argentina sounded in 1976 like The Weird Lord Slough Feg would sound 25 years later. Great stuff, if you ask me.... Good stuff, that twin guitar attack is very redolent of...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

That Collectors song was a new one to me, nice stuff. Difficult to know with threads like this what prople are already well aware of, but i'm guessing that most folks won't be too familiar with either of these. The Sound Of Imker - Train Of Doomsday (1969) Holland wrEHFl1-zfA The Outsiders - Inside ...

Re: Cirith Ungol

It will be released on cd on the 20th anniversary release. Lol, I fear you're right there, but it would be nice to have it on disc before i'm in need of a hearing aid. Am i alone in being a wee bit disappointed that the new album doesn't include any of the lost songs from back in the day that...

Re: Cirith Ungol

Really excited to hear what they've conjoured up, but i can't believe they aren't including the godly 'Witch's Game' on the album. Whut's a lowly CD buyin' fella to do?

Their singer sounds so much like Tygers Of Pan Tang's Jon Deverill that i was utterly baffled earlier when i couldn't 'Final Solution' on any Tygers record. And then the fuzzy ole brain remembered it was actually this band.

Re: Links-dept. reopened!

Would love to know more about the people behind those great collections... I would too, but on the other hand, maybe there's something about the utter lack of explanation & context that allows us to project our own interpretations upon the photos which adds to that feeling of nostalgia/sentimentali...
