MIGHTY SPHINCTER are great. This one's a great gothic/deathrock song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj1DsbBAhoY while tunes like "Bag lady" or "New manson family" qualify themself as metal songs. Yes you'll see I mentioned them a bit up. Great band indeed! @nightsblood thanks a ...

That early punks liked? Punk and HM didn't really get along well for the first couple of years! But some bands blending the two: Brats ( the band that would lead up to Mercyful Fate, kind of hard to imagine), the Plastmatics

Would Devil Doll qualify, at least on the first album? Also, I think Arpia fits, at the very least very dark and atmospheric stuff with doom passages. They left metal after the 80's from what I can tell, however. Oh, and Stillborn is definitely goth metal done properly, first album a bit more aggre...

'much obliged! Also wow on the Black Metal vocal approach it' like a metal infused SWANS or something. Sounds like Post-Metal before that was even remotely a ''thing'' Edit: after list...

I feel like there is some NWOBHM/early US band with a very laid back style and a lot of mood that might fit this thread, but the name totally escapes my mind.

Early mixes of Heavy Metal and Gothic Rock

While my biggest area of interest in music is Heavy Metal (duh!) I do have an affinity for the early Post-punk and goth scene. From around 1979 to 1988. And for a while I've been pondering doing a write up about the concept of Gothic Metal, If it does exist at all? What the trappings of this maybe-g...

I don't keep up with current Metal as much as I should, so these are like the only albums I've heard this year and I haven't even listened that much to them: Procession - to Reap the Heavens Apart. Candlemass meets Primordial Voivod- Target Earth, Don't call it a comback, but a great return to form ...

You can also check this thread too : http://www.thecorroseum.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6621  That's a neat thread I missed it because I assumed it would mostly be NWOBHM demos! Thanks! I know about Buffalo and sir Lord Baltimore. But IMO SLB sound more 70's to me, I'm sort of looking for son...

Fully formed Heavy Metal songs from the70's

Hey guys I've been digging through a lot of 70's proto-Metal/Heavy Prog/Psych bands these past few months and I started thinking about what songs from the 70's that come the absolute closest to what we today would define as Heavy Metal. Here are some of my picks: Thin Lizzy - Emerald Quartz - Mainli...

The local radio station was selling out their Archive of LP's, sadly most of the good stuff had been picked already. But I managed to find Scamps - Love Toaday Hate Tomorrow / Crystal Night. Great piece of FWOSHM from my hometown! Also picked up Into the Mirror Black in Prague last week. Great find...
