Close call but Kreator on the strength of Pleasure To Kill, esp Ripping Corpse. And since the thread started to slide in this direction I will say that I think Ironbound is probably the best album released by any of the big ol' thrashers from the 80s. Hmm I don't mean "of all time" ...

Metallica playing for the first time ever in my little city on the bottom of the world. $180 a ticket, hmmm. But at least they're not doing the in the round set up. Don't wanna find myself trying to avoid looking at Lars' sweaty bottom.

This is very cool indeed.

I notice a thanks to Sam Dunn in the special thanks list. I assume this is the same anthropolist / filmaker responsible for Headbanger's Journey, Flight 666 and Global Metal docos?

Saw him recently on a video appearing during Metallica's set to sing Motorcycle Man for an encore Most people in the crowd seemed to react ...

Mostly self made compilation - esp punk and nwobhm; anything one can sing along with. Though Aerosmith's Gems and KD's Them has had a lot of high rotation recently.

Has to be Metallica for me. They were the first real hard hit, and despite chasing that high over the last couple of decades, I've never got there with anything else.

Though, live, it might possibly be Maiden.

A couple of days ago I ended up watching some of The Roadrunner 25th anniversay dvd with Ripper Owens singing Curse of The Pharoahs, Abigail, and Alison Hell w/Jeff Waters on guitar. I thought he really nailed it! Very powerful sounding.

Nobody knew exactly, in 1981, how concrete and idiotically entrenched the genre definitions of Heavy Metal would become just 10 years from then. An...
