Re: Recommend me some German heavy metal

Me finally remembering to upload Alan's review of this classic also justified some thread-necromancy... Another illuminating piece of writing from the redoubtable quill of Mr. Nightsblood, nice work mate. Probably just an unintentional oversight, but when talking songs about trains in the Metal sph...

BUT, being w...

Re: Who's Cranking the New CIRITH UNGOL Today?

Really cool Cirith Ungol article here: https://yourlastrites.com/2020/04/30/cirith-ungol-primer-and-review-of-forever-black/ Thanks for the link Aiden, that was a fine piece of writing & a great little primer for the uninitiated. I particularly enjoyed his description of Tim Baker's vocals "soundin...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

Well, it'd be hard to say but music plays a pretty important part in Uruguay's cultural background, probably only second to football. They also benefitted from a somewhat "milder" dictatorship compared to other countries (not by much though, but more stuff seemed to get through the cracks). Somethi...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

we were quite late bloomers when it came to heavy stuff down here. In some places you pretty much had to wait until the mid 80s for real Heavy Metal to show up. I'm not sure if you're referring to Argentina specificallly or South America in general, (and it also depends on your definition of 'heavy...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

Well I never really dug into this band, but as far as I know most of their stuff is more progressive rock. Yeah, that seems to be the case from what i'm hearing on a compilation album i downloaded called 'Need Ei Vaata Tagasi...(1971-1988)'. Still, it's really well done & there are some ballsy mome...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

Nice! Ruja is a new band to me, and from that track they sound very worthy of further investigation.
I always thought that we Scots were the masters of the rolling 'R', but that singer is different level!

Re: Who's Cranking the New CIRITH UNGOL Today?

Didn't get my copy of 'Forever Black' until Friday but it was worth the wait, i'm really liking it a lot. Initial impression is that they've preserved their trademark sound perfectly, but also added a couple of interesting new wrinkles as well. Nothing feels out of place or forced & the songwriting ...

Re: Proto-metal song thread

This band opened for some of the biggest bands in the day, but for some reason are not that well known. bPpQ9W0ju4M This ties in to something I was thinking about this just the other day, how so many of the bands from the really early days were just abandoned by the audience after their initial imp...

Is that not another one of your drawings?!?! Remember when we would cover our school bag and books with band logos? I might start covering the doors here! School bags, school books, pencil cases, benches in the playground ,chairs & desks if we could get away with it..train & bus seats,....par...
