Re: Metal made by black musicians

I think that Bloodshot Eyes (UK) fits perfectly here. I had never heard of them. I'm checking them out right now, sounds pretty good, if not all that heavy. I like the melancholic vibe and there's no boogie crap so far, so that alone makes it much more interesting than 90% of obscure "NWOBHM" (thou...

Re: What 80´s demotapes would you like to see on vinyl?

When I asked Mike about this last year he said it isn't going to happen. It seems that this wish has been granted!!! Flynn Records released 150 copies on vinyl and some more cassettes! Price is a little too high though! When was this? Can't find anything about it. Same label released the Witchslaye...

Re: 80's Metal fanzines - discussions/tips/page-feedback (CONTRIBUTORS WANTED!)

Thanks so much DaN & rumblefist for the recent uploads, in particular 'Acne 'n' Dandruff'. I was transported back in time by the photos within showing the ludicrously high stage of the much-missed Glasgow Apollo. I only got to see three shows there in 1984/1985 before they closed the place down & bu...

I know this thread's meant for vinyl variations, but my god, they really phoned it in for the CD version of this one:

Nice finds!
I always enjoyed that Rex Begonia EP's honest raggedness. Whilst so many of their peers were trying to emulate the big Mutt Lange-style productions of that time, that record feels like you're sat right in the room at a band rehearsal.
How does the Touchstone 45 sound?

Re: Rusted Metal (Book) & Heir Apparent - Graceful Inheritance

Would love to get a copy, but the shipping cost is killing me. I hope some European dealer/distro will order qty soon. I hit the same problem with their reissues of TKO & Whizkey Stik, i fancied both but it seems they're without Euro distribution. I couldn't justify the cost of shipping from the U.S.

Re: "Did I hear that right?!"

Listening to Bigfootkit's Tasty comp again, & the fella out of Thundertrain told me to " Eat that comb! "   Apparently 'Dirty Water' is a cover of an old '60s song by The Standells, so perhaps it was actually they who originally urged listeners to scoff their grooming impliments. 62...

Re: Neptune - Northern Steel released

Congrats on the new record. Streaming it just now and it's sounding like a logical & natural stylistic progression from your '80's material. A good balance between the here & now and the spirit of yore. Impressive work.

Re: The Heavy Metal Mania - The German HR/HM guide

Blimey, that's quite the labour of love you've unleashed. Huge thanks & much respect for taking on a project of such scope. I've been vocal here on a couple of occassions about my relative ambivalence to the olde German scene, but i'm more than happy to have my assumptions & prejudices proven wrong ...

Re: V/A : Jobcentre Rejects Vol 4 - Ultra Rare FWOSHM 1978-1983

This journalist claims he used the phrase "FIrst Wave of Swedish Heavy Metal" in Creem Metal in the '80s. https://trinkelbonker.wordpress.com/2020/09/21/jobcentre-rejects-4-first-wave-of-swedish-heavy-metal-1978-1983/ Ron Quintana used a similar term in Metal Mania #10, not sure if he was the first...

Re: V/A : Jobcentre Rejects Vol 4 - Ultra Rare FWOSHM 1978-1983

No we don't, that's purely an English expression. So most likely tied to the fact that the label focuses on releasing bands who went nowhere and didn't get signed. It's more accurately a British expression as it's used by us Scots, the Northern Irish & Welsh too, but that's just me being a thin-ski...

Re: V/A : Jobcentre Rejects Vol 4 - Ultra Rare FWOSHM 1978-1983

Do Swedes actually call social security 'the dole', or is that a tie-in with the Jobcentre Rejects theme & a nod to the circumstances most NWoBHM bands were formed in? No we don't, that's purely an English expression. So most likely tied to the fact that the label focuses on releasing bands who wen...

Re: V/A : Jobcentre Rejects Vol 4 - Ultra Rare FWOSHM 1978-1983

Agh.. I should have posted a thread about this release ages ago, so cheers to Kit for stepping in. This is obviously more of a cool mix-tape from the past that the complete-discog HRR type releases and it does the job perfectly, i.e. enhances the listening experience of many releases I wouldn't nor...
