Dharma where perhaps the first White Metal band from South America. They were hare krishna and talked about god in their lyrics. The history of the band starts with Hans Lauris Rodriguez on guitars, who came from the fusion rock band Kotosh (1978) and was the guitar teacher of members from Oxido, Masacre, etc. Hans and Juan Eduardo “Lalo” Martinez (bass) founded the band in 1986 with Willy Hermoza on drums and Ricardo Maguiña on vocals. Their debut show was on the 1st No Professional Rock Contest on the No Helden in 1987. Dharma got to 7th place out of 120 bands, playing the final show in Campo de Marte.

In 1988 they played in the first Ataque Metal in Pueblo Libre with bands like Sepulcro, Mortem, Hadez, Hastur, Kranium, etc. That was the last show of Richard on vocals - Hans and Lalo shared vocals after that. Percy Stambury then joined on bass and Lalo switched to guitars with the idea to copy the Iron Maiden sound. In 1989 they recorded their “La Batalla de Kuruksetra” demo in Gerald Paz studios. This time the drums were recorded by Beto ‘Locutor’ Reyna. This is maybe one of the first pro demo tapes in Peru. The A side is hard rock oriented and the B side is Heavy Metal. Hans Lauris left the band later to advocate to his hare krishna beliefs, but Lalo Martinez stayed with the band until 1993, in a more hard rock way with other members. In 2020 “La Batalla de Kuruksetra” got a proper CD release by Xaria Music (Peru).
