Athens record stores
I'm going to Up the Hammers for the first time next week, so which are the best record shops in Athens? Have in mind, I prefer metal, but 70s hard rock, prog and psych are also of interest. There should be a lot of collectors with experience here, so I'm expecting a few answers here

Re: Athens record stores
I thought a similar thread existed...
Anyway.
Most stores are located downtown.
These are the pure metal stores:

http://www.metalera.gr/
http://www.bowelofnoise.com/
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sirens-R ... 3428308585
https://www.facebook.com/shivarecords
The rest cover every music genre (rock/metal included), like the legendary "To Ypogeio"(=the basement), formerly known as "Solonos kai Massalias":
https://www.facebook.com/pages/%CE%A4%C ... 4902775398
There is also the Monastiraki flea market, with many interesting, hidden or not, places for a collector to do serious record hunting. This one probably stands out from the rest:

For a more thorough search and getting even deeper in Athens record hunting, you can also check these articles (use translator) which, more or less, cover the subject in a more detailed way:
http://www.ough.gr/index.php?mod=articl ... iew&id=937

I wish you good time at the UTH and fruitful record hunting.
PS. Sonic Age and Eat Metal are also located in Athens. They don't have stores currently, but these are their homepages, anyway, incase you want to arrange something with them:

Re: Athens record stores
Hello, any update to these lists?
I saw there is a media Mrkt around too, is it worth going to?

Re: Athens record stores
Eat metal was relocated and made a reboot. You should definitely visit it along with No remorse, Bowel of noise (mainly for extreme metal ) and Monastiraki Flea market.Shimrod wrote:Hello, any update to these lists?

The rest are valid too (apart from Shiva), but Media mrkt, hardly worths a visit. If you want expensive mainstream metal you could visit the "Public" stores.

Re: Athens record stores
Hello, thank you for your reply.
I already planned to visit both No Remorse and Bowel.
I did not know Eat metal had a physical shop.
Sometimes Media Mrkt carry interresting titles at good prices like in Hungary for local bands or Germany.
What about these stores? Are they worth a visit?

Re: Athens record stores
The Eat Metal store address-in latin letters-is :"Spiridonos Trikoupi 45, Exarhia, Athens". You could check their catalogue and make some reservations (as they have limited copies from each) after making a contact with them to arrange it.Shimrod wrote:Hello, thank you for your reply.

Media Markt: I search all the times but the best thing found was a Krokus CD, for 6 Euros. However, a friend of mine in Salonika discovered (only) once a pretty underground and obscure local release sold for 8 euros. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that you can do much much much better, checking all the other shops in the list before you bother to pay a visit there.
PS. If you are in to vinyl, as well, you have a wider taste in music and rock, and pleeeenty of time, you could discover many gems in all these stores mentioned in the link. For stricktly metal, better stick to my original recommendations I made in my post almost a year and half ago.

Re: Athens record stores
I agree that with so many independant stores around, there are better places to go than Media Mrkt. And I probably won't have time to check them all anyway.
I already reserved some cds in the other store but the pleasure is in browsing through piles of stuff isn't it?
Thanks again for your help.

When are you coming? This Tuesday morning, I'm probably gonna be at Eat Metal too, spending plenty of time record-shopping the old way: drinking coffee, metal-chatting and listening stuff and recommendations by the crew. If you see a guy wearing this (the upper left T-Shirt):
come say hello.

Re: Athens record stores
Hello,
I will be in Athens next week. I don't know yet when I will go to the shops (probably in the evening as they close late on some days).
I'll be quite busy during the day visiting the town.
