I agree, some great tales here.
I actually had a really weird dream the other night which i think was influenced by one of the stories i read in this thread.
I was being chased by someone i couldn't see through dark deserted streets, and although i never saw my pursuer, in the dream i knew it was a glove wearing transvestite who was out to get me.
:?
So thank you to the original poster of that story, apparently it really worked its way into my sub conscious, or maybe i shouldn't eat cheese before bed.

Apparently garlic gives you vivid dreams if you eat it before bed? Does for me anyway!

Garlic gives me heartburn, but thanks for the "tip", my dreams are plenty vivid enough apparently.

I'm a veggy, but if it turns into a recurring nightmare, i'll eat raw meat to put an end to it!

Great topic, I have a story too.

Years back, I went to the local market on saturday in Eindhoven. its a common market with clothes, food, old books etc. An old hippie guy had a stand with a van, he had some racks full of vinyl. I just searched through a random crate, and it was amazing what he had there. Brocas helm- into battle, Both Dark Wizard LP's, Chastain-ruler, several Rave on Records, Hits-hard Gilgamesj etc. I bought all the great stuff he had, about 20 lps for 2,50 euro a piece. I left, next week I returned to see, if he had brought new stuff. He didnt have any metal left. I asked him where is your metal stuff. Well he said, every week I bring different, stuff but If you want come to check at my House, I have a lot of records there, Hardrock ,metal ,folk ,classic etc etc.

So I went there with a friend, it was about 25 km away in a small village (Oirschot). We rang the door, no answer, so we looked inside, the old guy was sleeping in a chair near his fireplace. We knocked the window, he saw us and opened the door. We were welcomed. I was just listening this great record, come join me. So we sat in his livingroom at the fireplace listening to some folk record, which was horrible. He offered to smoke with him the hasj he was smoking.. but no thanks, we come for the records! oh of course, he showed us. It was a dusty cellar, with real spider webs and stuff, haha really great. He didnt lie, he had a shitload (hundreds, maybe even a few thousand) of lps and hundreds of cds there.

Turned out he used to have a shop, to rent vinyl-cds and general music stuff. Like a library but then for music. But when the CD arrived, and the computers etc, nobody came to him anymore, Also several rare records had been rented, but never returend, So he quit. And decided to sell all his records. He became a market saleman. Well what he had there showed that he had a really great musical taste. We left with about 70 records, Diamond Head, Witch-the hex is on(red), Crucifixion-Green eyes (purple), Incubus-to the devil a daughter, Prophacy, Nexus-gonna find out, Wolf-edge of the world,Protector, 220 volt, Chateaux, H-bomb, Both overdrives, Helstar, Exxplorer, Cloven hoof, Baron Rojo etc etc. Besides the metal we also bought a lot of old hardrock, and general oldies, Rush, Foghat, Stones, etc etc. All for around 2,50 till the occasional 10,00 for a record.

Really nice day that was, now I think about it again, havent been there for years, sure to have overlooked some stuff. Think the (rent)shop was called Kereweer, All the lps had a stickered label on the edge, with the name, date of release, date of when they bought it, and price. Most were even still sealed, except the opening of course.

I have told this story before to other people, but over here we used to have this really weird store called "Mars Records" which was more of a garage-sale like basement. The guy (who was a fucking porn-obsessed pedophile looking guy) had bought tons of dead stock and old collections from people and put them all in his basement without any order... it was a mess, some kind of treasure hunt. You'd walk and break 8-track casettes and old lp's under your feet... in that place there was tons of hard to find metal LP's - like for example the two first BULLDOZERs and also had some merch (found a gigantic original ANVIL Forged in Fire poster) and some old zines (Danish BLACKTHORN mag, canadian METALIAN, ancient KERRANG). It was fun, but you almost had to wear gloves because everything was so fucking dusty, haha. The place sadly closed down since, but I will always remember it!

all great stories! I don't have any good story because when I finally reached a big city here in Portugal (coming to university) the stores were all gone.

Either way very few existed, even back in the days, and the material was scarce.

Portugal is not a good country if you want to hunt down records. Even the ones from Portuguese bands.

In the mid-90's, in my most "open-minded" period as far as music goes, whenever there was a record fair in my home town I always went through everything - and I really mean Every Single Crate - at the bi-yearly record fairs. There was this one year where I went a little OTT though. This particular fair was open from early morn 'til 8 in the evening, I had also gotten my first real salary at my new job and spent about 8 hours straight flipping through records and buying craploads. This resulted in two things:

1. My fingertips were worn red so I couldn't hold a coffee mug for days.

2. While carrying the records to my apartment (a half-hour walk) I overstrained my arm muscles to the extent that I couldn't do any heavy lifting for about a year without getting cramps.

A wise man once said: "Scars make better stories than tattoos".
