I found the East German compilation LP Speed Up - Heavy News from 1990 at a local record fair today. I didn't even realize it was a compilation until I got home (in fact it's a three-way split with the bands contributing with four tracks each) - I paid less than 2 euro and thought it to be some kind of lousy (speed/thrash) metalploitaition record. Man, was this a great surprise hearing Headless' "Vulkane der Erde" - what a classic! Great speedy melodic metal with personality. Also the other bands (Merlin and Hardholz) were really good.

This will for sure look good next to the Hard & Heavy comp (also GDR).

Also brought home:

Hexx - Under the spell LP
Gargoyle - S/T LP
Quartz - Tell me why/Streetwalker 7"
and some other vinyl stuff of less interest here...
