Now, first question for the thread: Am I alone in hearing the French vocals?Re: NORTHERN HAZE - Sinnaktuq LP 1985
Thank you, DaN for another eye-opener. Canadian Inuit HM/HR. From 1985. Duh! The frontiers seem to be further away than ever.
Will check possible french vocals in next days.

Thanks for the chance to hear this DaN.
Incredible that such an artifact exists and i'll leave some feedback when i have time to give it a proper listen.

I don't know why, but somehow I am connecting with this:
Tracklist
A1 Dance depicts Kitigaluit Village at mouth of Mackenzie River NWT
A2 Dancers swirl and stamp about difficulties on river bank
A3 Celebration at dark times of year. Shake arms, stamp feet, think of good times ahead.
A4 Early morning on the land. Trapper wakens but decides to rest. Dancers stretch groan of such laziness.
B1 See ducks on the lake! They preen skip and soar. Dancers imitate motions.
B2 Hunter angry about his first musket-loading rifle. Aims, misfires. Motions of smashing musket against rocks.
B3 Prize seal caught. Dance rendered with motions of hauling, lifting to cadence of caribou skin drum.

Re: NORTHERN HAZE - Sinnaktuq LP 1985
This reminds me of the the kind of oddities I used to pick up at flea markets in the 90's and early 00's. I was poor but still vinyl-dependant, and I remember how I kinda got a kick out of just buying dirt-cheap, weird, exotic albums, putting down the needle in the grooves and having no - idea - whatsoever as to what would come out of the speakers, other than that it would be about as far from any form of Rock Music I'd be confortable with. Kinda like musical bungy-jumping I guess? Lots of exotic/world/field-recordings were hoarded and I eventually made a sampler of it: https://www.discogs.com/release/1418710 ... re-Exoticadoomedplanet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 6:24 pm I don't know why, but somehow I am connecting with this:

Re: NORTHERN HAZE - Sinnaktuq LP 1985
To me it sounds like the vocalist is singing in English but with a strong foreign accent, (could be French), but he sounds drunk & is slurring his words. English phrases just keep on leaping out at me. Very strange.
If i said it sounds like The Crucifucks covering Hanoi Rocks would anyone know what i meant?
Overall it's quite a likeable record. The short upbeat tracks are enthusiastically performed & though the songs are somewhat dated for 1985 & a little naive sounding to my jaded 2022 ears, that's probably also a large part of what i'm enjoying about it. It genuinely sounds like they're having a blast & the guitarist in particular is pretty good when he cuts loose on the solos. Nothing for Yngwie to lose sleep over, but perfectly fitting for this type of material.
It does overstay it's welcome when they get all serious & reflective on a few songs towards the end of the album, but if they'd been ruthless editors they could have pared the LP down into a pretty nifty EP.

Okay, in an attempt to clarify what i meant about hearing 'English' lyrics i had a go at translating what i heard on track 2 "Nutaraq (Poor Child)". The results are pretty amusing (at least to me). Hit play & sing along:
You got out that harpoon
Here is a dude
Glued to me
And why could you guy?
I nail so bad
Bad to me
And why could it be that he don't
Write to me?
See me on that digital i do to you
Oh I need, that you for me
do hire a fool
To run about, like a bison
To vote for you
Pecker wood
Pissy mood
Pecker wood
Pissy mood
And why could you guy?
I nail so bad
Really poor
Had to leave to see the moon
I need a poo
I have half a wine in me
Darling I
Sued a barrel
Me, I would marry me
But why me? i do to me
I, the fool
surrounded by an exotic sun
See view by you
Decor view
Pass evil
Decor view
Pass evil
You got out that harpoon
Here is a dude
Glued to me
And why could you guy?
I nail so bad

Looks perfect on the paper, so I truly have to give it a listen, and make sure I see what you mean! I’m french, so I also may help about the language question…bigfootkit wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 4:24 amIf i said it sounds like The Crucifucks covering Hanoi Rocks would anyone know what i meant?

It's times like these I regret not having a YT-channel - would make a perfect Misheard-Lyrics clip. I really believed he was actually singing in English there for a while..
..and for the record: I know it's not French - it just sounded French'y in my head for some reason.

So, who dares to post this in the YT comments? If someone gets pissed off we can always blame 'kit..

Re: NORTHERN HAZE - Sinnaktuq LP 1985
Glad you found it amusing & somewhat convincing DaN. Interesting that although English is your 2nd language you were stil able to hear what i meant about hearing English phrases. I'd assumed the likelihood was that my brain was hardwired to decipher my own language, but maybe it's not that straight forward. Any neuro-scientists/linguists here able to explain this phenomenon?DaN wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 8:38 am My... doG! Brilliant!!

Unfortunately/fortunately the comments section for the YT version is turned off, so listeners there will be spared my interpretation of the lyrics.
I'm amazed that anyone took that comparison as a recommendation, though it was meant as one. Just assumed i'd be in a minority of one in liking both of those seemingly unrelated bands.Kraignoss666 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 6:36 amLooks perfect on the paper, so I truly have to give it a listen.bigfootkit wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 4:24 am If i said it sounds like The Crucifucks covering Hanoi Rocks would anyone know what i meant?

There are definitely some french intonations in whatever language is used. Great great music by the way, that I’ll place next to the amazing Native North American compilations on Light In The Attic. We all know that, but there’s always amazing music to be discovered!

Kit, I indeed don’t have much friends that are both into the Crucifucks and Hanoi Rocks, so thank for that: I’m feeling incredibly less weird and lonely with such sentences!
