CULT OF THE UNDERDOG Podcast
Episode 01 : Sweet Evil (Pilot Episode : Halloween Special)
Underdog music for underdog people, this new bi-monthly podcast begins with a bespoke Halloween Special.
A seamless smorgasbord of Heavy Metal, Psych, Punk, Prog, Hard Rock & all points inbetween, thematically linked & meticulously curated to meet all your All Hallows Eve needs.
Shining a little light in the dustier corners of music's overlooked past.
No tedious chat, just music & juvenile silliness courtesy of the buffoons formerly behind ye olde New Improved Live & Otherwise Blog.
For best results we recommend listeners bring a sense of humour.
Contains some 'adult language', so it's probably best not to blare it at work, in church or around children.
Join the cult!
If any of you can find a spare hour to stream this i'd appreciate ny feedback.
I can provide a tracklist later, but for now i'd like any impressions not to be swayed by any prior knowledge of the contents, but of course it's generally a Hard Rock/Punk/Prog/Psych/Metal thang.
Feel free to pass the link on to anyone else you think might appreciate it.
I cannot, I shall not, I will not obey.

Re: CULT OF THE UNDERDOG Podcast
Went through two times, and yeah, another amazing compilation. Only know one contribution, well, two now, that Khnud has mentioned it . Looking forward for complete credits, incl. various snippets, of which again know only one. I especially like the ones more psychedelic, but am clueless as to who they might be. On the other hand the horror punk may be 45 Grave, but I may shoot in wrong target. As a whole: Killer!

Re: CULT OF THE UNDERDOG Podcast
Lol. I absolutely hadn't expected it to turn into a name-that-tune style quiz, but i'm appreciative of the interest & glad to hear that my efforts were appreciated & enjoyed. Some of the edits & mixing was a bit crude here & there, but as i get more practice that'll improve hopefully.
Impressive tune-sluething skills in evidence particularly from Khnud & Ernest, i take my hat off to you gents, you very nearly got them all. No mean feat.
As promised, I'll now put you out of your misery with the definitive track-by-track lowdown, though i'm not going to go into the origins of all the dialogue samples, primarily because i simply don't recall where i sampled a lot of it from & didn't tag the samples very meticulously when i began making them. If you desperately need to know the origin of one i haven't mentioned just ask & i'll see if my poor old brain can dredge up an answer for you.
01. Harry Rabinowitz - London Weekend Television TV Ident (1968)
02. Baltik - Leslie Briggs (1973) [from the 'Baltik' LP]
03. John Carpenter & Alan Howarth - Silver Shamrock (1982) [from the 'Halloween III : Season Of The Witch' soundtrack LP]
04. Zeke - Eyes Of Satan (2001) [from the 'Death Alley' LP] (Inc intro from Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's 'Fire')
05. John Carpenter - Halloween Title Theme (1978) [from the 'Halloween' soundtrack LP]
06. The Rattles - Devil's On The Loose (1970) [from the 'Devil's On The Loose' 7"] (different from the LP version)
07. Jesters Of Destiny - Diggin' That Grave (1986) [from the 'Fun At The Funeral' LP] [with opening theme from 'Twilight Zone' TV show by Bernard Hermann]
08. The Nutley Brass - Halloween (Misfits cover) (2005) [from the 'Misfits Meet The Nutley Brass : Fiend Club Lounge' LP]
09. Goliath - Dracula (1985) [from the 'Goliath' LP] (with dialogue from 'Dracula' (1931))
10. Magnet - The Maypole (1973) [from the 'The Wicker Man' soundtrack LP]
11. Strychnine - Jack The Ripper (1978) [from the 'Jack The Ripper' 7"] (inc shower theme from 'Psycho' soundtrack by Bernard Hermann)
12. David Shire - The Sixth Sense (1972) [Theme from the 'The Sixth Sense' TV Show - on the 1st half of Season 1 only]
13, Bintangs - Demons (1971) [from the 'Demons' 7"]
14. Misfits - Horror Business (1980) [from the 'The Collection I' LP} [inc. theme from 'The Addams Family' TV Show by Vic Mizzy]
15. Charles Gonoud - Funeral March Of A Marionette (1879) [theme from the 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents...' TV Show]
16. I Love You - Flies (1991) [from the 'I Love You' LP] (with dialogue from 'Dracula' (1931))
17. Supersuckers - Born With A Tail (1995) [from the 'Sacrilicious Sounds Of The Supersuckers' LP] (inc. 'the Awakening' by Alice Cooper (1976))
18. Wizard - Seance (1971) [from the 'The Original Wizard' LP] (inc. 'Out Demons Out' by Edgar Broughton Band (1970))
19. Ostrogoth - The Full Moon's Eyes (1983) [from 'The Full Moon's Eyes' EP]
20. Diabolic Man - Diabolic Man (Part 1) (1974) [from the 'Diabolic Man' 7"] (inc. dialogue from Iron Maiden's 'Number Of The Beast (1982) & laughter from 'Madhouse' by Anthrax (1985)
21. The Hellacopters - The Exorcist (2002) [from the 'By The Grace Of God' LP] (inc. dialogue from 'The Exorcist' (1973))
22. Morse Code Transmission - Satan's Song (1972) [from the 'Morse Code Transmission II' LP] (inc. intro from 'Euthanasia' by Tygers Of Pan Tang (1980))
23. Dwarves - Satan (re-recorded version) (2001) [from the 'How To Win Friends & Influence People' LP] (inc. dialogue from a 70's porn film, but i forget the title & a 'Kumbaya' outro taken from the 'Corner Gas' TV show)
24. Phantom's Divine Comedy - Welcome To Hell (1974) [from the ' Part 1' LP] (inc. dialogue from 'The Wicker Man' (1973))
25. John Carpenter & Alan Howarth - Silver Shamrock (Reprise) (1982) [from the 'Halloween III : Season Of The Witch' soundtrack]
Surprised no-one recognised the Shaft-styled cover of the Misfits 'Halloween' in there, but i suppose there was quite a lot going on over the mix's 1 hour running time. Go back & play that part again, now that you know what it is it'll be instantly recognisable.
So a 2nd episode isn't a terrible idea then? Good to know. Look for it in December. And thanks for the encouraging words.

No idea what effect this schitzophrenic mix may have at that ungodly hour of the morning, proceed with caution.

Re: CULT OF THE UNDERDOG Podcast
As we're talking podcasts & mixes, i feel duty bound to point you all towards the page of Corroseum stalwart Doomed Planet, who has 4 excellent mixes uploaded so far which inspired me in part to give it a go myself.
Three of the mixes are in the Metal/Hard Rock vein with lots of hen's teeth rare content & the other is an amazing mix of 70s Latin Proto-Metal called 'Machismo Fuzz' which i'm hoping will get bootlegged at some point as i need a die-hard hold-it-in-your-hands CD version for my collection.
Give yer ears a treat:

Great episode, I really enjoyed it. THANX!!
Re: CULT OF THE UNDERDOG Podcast
It hasn't happened in a while that I felt at least mildly blown mind. Biggest cheers, Kit, for introducing me to BINTANGS and WIZARD, but also to RATTLES and MORSE CODE TRANSMISSION, even when their broader output is not as darkly consistent as this mix.
I should also pay more attention to soundtracks and related musics. This David SHIRE's showtheme fits to BINTANGS' Demons like dad on the mom. And that Magnet track is beautifully demented.
I remember PDC to be rather pale, religious inclined psych, but here they function fully.
Haven't recognized JOD, although I acquired album physically around the time I joined this forum (nobody noticed it turned 15 this year btw), and there's absolutely no way, anyone of us, except Gary perhaps, could have recognized MISFITS within the sounds of Nutley Brass (my knowledge of MISFITS is supersuperficial at best). No way. Also unrecognizable is Madhouse laughter next to 'Beast solemnity. Utterly anticlimactic. But not bad of course and sufficiently in the spirit of Halloween.
As said elsewhere, I cannot wait for the next one.
