Re: GHOST (Sweden)
I tried not to like them cos of the mass-hysteria, but I failed hard.
These are the top 3 reasons that prevented me from disliking them:

Re: GHOST (Sweden)
I just listened to half a song way back then and haven't felt the urge to listen to any more of their stuff until now, but it's always been fun to read all the commens about them

I have to admit that I really liked "Opus Eponymous", thought the image was really cool. Their later albums were not my cup of tea at all....
Re: GHOST (Sweden)
The only track i liked by them was "He is"...indifferent to the rest.

I waited for keeper to spill his bile (and ketchup) over the topic. In my book, Meliora is the best album of 2010 - 2019 decade - so far, and will probably remain. 'He Is', 'Mummy Dust','Cirice', 'From the Pinnacle To The Pit', 'Spirit', etc. are top songs, whole album is very consistent, too.
'He Is' is also incredibly subversive - an ode, almost love song to the "Lord". I get goosebumps any time I play it. Should be played on Radio Vatican, it fits there .
It was quite influential, as even some extreme bands/artist allowed the vibe to enter their musics. And it is not glam that influenced them, but one other, squarely rock sub-subgenre that takes care of catchiness of their songs.

If i remember well, "He is" is actually dedicated (ahem...) to Tony Alamo, a founder of a christian cult who later got over 100 years of jail for child sex offenses.

Re: GHOST (Sweden)
I'm thick headed so probably the biggest problem I have with Ghost is that I can't hear the name without thinking of this:
I loved what the guy did with Repugnant, before the whole boom of old school death metal they were one of the few contemporary bands that 'got it' when it came to death metal. I've always had my hopes up for a second album but seeing the success of Ghost that won't happen anytime soon.
He's probably making more money a day now than he made with all the years of Repugnant, but I liked the music a lot more, there was a real band instead of Tobias with some hired musicians performing some kind of theater on stage.

Well, you should at least provide a link proper. And I'd say "influenced by" not "dedicated to".Helstar wrote: ↑Fri Nov 23, 2018 1:31 pm If i remember well, "He is" is actually dedicated (ahem...) to Tony Alamo, a founder of a christian cult who later got over 100 years of jail for child sex offenses.

even more subversive, then. Well, some nice t*ts in there. even Tobi has barely contained himself, hehehe.

Re: GHOST (Sweden)
The song is "about" him (in a positive or negative way, depends on the opinion of each of us).
You didn't see my "ahem", need some glasses ? ... and the links still work perfectly thanks.

Re: GHOST (Sweden)
you have inserted two links which do not link Ghost or 'He Is' with Alamo. Only descriptions. That's why I inserted the one below.
