First wave black metal
I’m putting together a DJ set of early black metal, I have some essentials already of course, sodom, bathory, nme, poison etc. I’m looking for a few others I may not have heard of or thought of to throw in though. Stuff with plenty of evil atmosphere along the lines of “under the sign of the black mark” in particular would be cool.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Does Tormentor belong here? Torr? Master's Hammer? Tudor?
Re: First wave black metal
While it might be a little bit too late for being considered a first wave record, Deliverance's Devil's Meat is one of my favorites in that style.

Obscurity - Damnation's Pride is a personal favourite.
Re: First wave black metal
Your looking for Black/Thrash or real Black Metal (Heavy Metal with satanic themes no matter what style) in general?

Acrid( Ger), Poison( Ger), and of course Mephisto from Sweden were around in the first wave of black/ speed/ thrash/ death ect.
Re: First wave black metal
Rarely mentioned band, X-Creta.
Re: First wave black metal
If you are referring to the Belgian band, X-creta were a hardcore punk band who (like many others) adopted some metallic influences in their sound, but have NOTHING to do with black or Satanic metal.Maxim wrote:Rarely mentioned band, X-Creta.

Well, while they might not have Satanic lyrics, they do have that Venom/NME/Warfare sound.malegys wrote:If you are referring to the Belgian band, X-creta were a hardcore punk band who (like many others) adopted some metallic influences in their sound, but have NOTHING to do with black or Satanic metal.Maxim wrote:Rarely mentioned band, X-Creta.

Seconded! I love X-Creta and apart from the influences, I would never classify them as metal. Also their shows were full-on hardcore blasts back then with lots of other hardcore bands.malegys wrote:If you are referring to the Belgian band, X-creta were a hardcore punk band who (like many others) adopted some metallic influences in their sound, but have NOTHING to do with black or Satanic metal.Maxim wrote:Rarely mentioned band, X-Creta.

Well to me they are no less metal than Cryptic Slaughter, but additionally with a fair share of this early BM sound in NME/Venom/Bathory '84 vein. So personally I would classify them as "blackened thrashcore" or something like that. As for the missing "satanic" part... Well maybe I am too old to give a damn about the lyrics/image/etc
