As i like the idea of the "shop methode" of stacking records with the shelves, i'm more into the "wall of records"type

*Show your storage solutions"-topic could be interesting. I personally prefer the wall of sound method too, because it's more space-efficient.

Married w/ children, but we've compromised. The wife gets room for about a hundred plants + first say in decorating the rest of the apartment. I couldn't stand using the "wall of records" method 'cause you never get to actually see your stuff. Being able to flip through your collection is much more inspiring. Also, I still haven't come up with a solution to the problem of the sleeves coming out of the plastics when you store them that way.

But can't you buy just real shelves?
I thought Ikea was from Sweden.
They got the best shelf for record collectors. Exact measures ...

Yes, the flipping of records is way cooler by far :)

And actually, the same happened to me in 2009 when I had to move. The first that was built up was the living room with the records and CD-walls :)

Darn. Whenever I'm not paying enough attention, I miss the target entirely. Would never have thought you own Polish heavy prog, although you made that eastern Euro Metal compendium. Next to it is Fear Of the Dark or I see wrong again?

Kudos for you and yours and the compromise. We moved 4 and half years ago into a smaller home and my collection is still in boxes. I do go stare at the boxes, move them about and wonder about the contents from time to time. If there was a spare room I suspect I could get my stuff unpacked.

As for the 2 storing methods, I do like the "shope" method for vinyl and the wall method for cd, tapes, vhs, DVD, Blu Ray, etc... as these have spines (legible) for reading.

I remember I would spend, as I am sure many here do as well, hours staring at the spines, pulling an album or disc out, reading the liners all while spinning a disc or 10...
