Closest to '76-'78 Priest you may get???
Re: Closest to '76-'78 Priest you may get???
OK, I don't think anyone will come close to that Dan Jefferies track (wow, I need to track that LP down!)
One of my favorite tracks that I shared on the Compilation Encyclopedia listener's companion Volume 2 has a strong early Priest sound, and that is Shepherd - The Power.

This was going to be my recommendation but I was beaten to it...Pavlos wrote:
This here should be stuff, Maxim is looking for.
Most of the songs on the album sound like stuff from the "Sad Wings" Era.
METAL!!!!
Comparing 70's and 80's Priest is pretty pointless since it was two completely different eras and tastes obviously differ depending on musical background.
Generally speaking, I find those that grew up in the 70's prefer the blues/prog oriented 70's tinged stuff that was prominent even into the early 80's in some cases more then the truly metallic stuff of the mid to late 80's.
Either way, there's a Judas Priest poll from a while back that you can place your votes here:

The board seems to be rather separated on the topic.
I disagree. Sabbath did it six years earlier with "Children Of The Grave". Although, the solo in "Dissident Aggressor" definitely gave influence to guys like Kerry King.whiteravenmetal wrote:Dissident Aggressor is the birth of Thrash Metal and you have to be deaf to don't notice it,

Some cool recommendations in this thread. Dave Jefferies' Century ( !), Lazer, Blitz and Survivor. All enjoyed. Thanks.

Kerry King is a hack and a greedy POS who was only out for himself and to hell with the rest of the group, Hanneman carried the band. He reminds me of Dave Mustaine except Mustaine is a better guitar player

I'd post a youtube clip of "Close encounters" of The Next Band but seems someone deleted the video?

First thing that comes in my mind is the dragonfly EP, especially the song mercy. It always reminded me of Stained Class album!

I can totally imagine Halford singing this one:

This may also give you the spirit of Priest in that era if not the exact sound:

Took the words right out of my... um, fingers. Have only had the time to listen to The Fury and snippets of the rest of the album on youtube, but yes, the hunt is on.Khnud wrote:Dan Jefferies =

A band known expecially because of a cover...but this underrated album from 1978 rules(at least for me!!!):

Touché! And Queen did it also 3 years before with Stone Cold Crazy (well more Speed Metal if we're more objective) but to me the breaking point is Dissident Aggressor and the mighty Motörhead of course, can't really relate COTG in my head with Thrash even if THE riff is the heaviest shit in history but I get your point.Avenger wrote: I disagree. Dragonfly EP is gold! On it's own amateurish way but gold anyway. Here's a clip from the eravasilis2112 wrote:First thing that comes in my mind is the dragonfly EP, especially the song mercy. It always reminded me of Stained Class album!
