That "it's old so who cares?"-attitude I recognize even from when asking around about old forgotten Swedish bands, but I would imagine it's much worse from less developed parts of the world. Maybe it's the general lack of nostalgia for the past? Anyways..
demophil wrote:... and - most important - have skill enough to write as I totally lack of it
..clearly isn't true seeing your long post only in this thread. I'll gladly help with the editing if you should decide to put something together. It just feels like such a shame to let all that collected information go to waste. Hell, you making those trips all around the world just looking for obscure Metal recordings is a good enough a story for any ambitious documentary producer. Have you asked one?

This sounds interesting:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mega-Pow ... =page_info

Jordan heavy metal active from 1983, later became thrash metal in 1989....from Jordan!

I know they released one song on a compilation Ep:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Last-Cal ... se/1780607

But, according to this biography it seems they recorded a Demo in 1991 with 10 tracks:

http://www.jorzine.com/page.php?menu7&P ... php&id=122

And I wrote to the band founder to ask for more details about the rock/metal scene in Jordan in the 80's and 90's, hope for a reply:

This song is taken from their 2nd album from 1987, "Tangtangi", they made a lot of other albums but only a few of them are hard rock/heavy:

That song sounds really cool! Unfortunately I am not fanatical enough to make a trip to Papua and actually look for that tape (or whatever it was released upon)

I think I am planning a visit to Lebanon and Jordan

See what the guys of Jorzine (an online metal fanzine from Jordan) wrote to me a few minutes ago:

"...Some bands from all over the region have came to my mind when you told me about the project you are currently working on. Have you heard about the Lebanese band THE SEADERS? They were a Beatles-like band from the late 60s which were probably the first band in the region to play Pop-rock with an oriental folk twist.

Another Lebanese band which came to my mind was EXCEED, a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band from the early 90s. The band's vocalist Haitham Al Khatib has moved to Dubai, where he has set up a band called XCEED (I don't know if it has any relationship with his previous band). I also recently found out another Lebanese band from the early 90s called CEDRA (1996, they released one album in the same year) and previously in a metal band called SHYNA (1991, one Demo Tape in 1994) and TUMSTONE (1994). You can check them out here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-id97xrdwdE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou3SxQC7N-Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEijGGHk1ms
http://www.rabihsaad.net/#!shyna-in-con ... /image1w32 (SHYNA in 1991)
http://websta.me/p/1057396863401404935_319902505 (SHYNA in 1992)

I know also two Iraqi Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands from the late 80s. One of them is called SCARE CREW, which were the first Heavy Metal band in the country. The other one is called MAYBE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=didwq4ikW_8 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ4Yvcoz3gI), and they were focused on Classic Rock and Hard Rock. If you have watched ACRASSICAUDA's documentary "Heavy Metal in Baghdad", I can assure you that it's totally false that they are the first Metal band in Iraq.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnHCUAIWaZ0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn3gjYLM5gU (this is really nice, btw!!!!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfHoMvtMXRs (this is even better!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC4Ja1tjy58
http://www.discogs.com/Scare-Crew-Live- ... se/6105094

If you are also interested in Iran, I recommend you to dig on KOUROSH YAGHMAEI's history. This artist from the late 60s - early 70s was also one of the pioneers of Rock music in the country. Regarding Syria, you shall keep an eye on JACK POWER, probably the first Hard Rock artist from the country. He started his career back in the late 80s."

@demophil: Hm, these lists need to be organized and put in good use, just don't know how atm...

Meanwhile I've added the Bands-section of the Lithuanian Metal portal Ferrum to the Map (cheers to lunaboy/Jonas for the tip!) + the GDR music site Deutsche Mugge that Prowler mentioned.

Yeah....well you can copy for a future use and delete them from here. I don't know either how to use them unless I supply some pictures, additional information, lineups, songs or link to songs...and I have no time as I am leaving for my trip tomorrow, don't know when I can find some good time to do it

YOMWM has now been updated with Part two: North/Central America. See all those white blotches in the middle? That's the United States. Since there isn't any sites dedicated to the whole of the old US scene I'm planning to add local State/City-focused sites instead. It haven't had much success I'm afraid, so ALL possible link-tips are more than welcome.

I agree this is a great work.

Just one small thing. As I have noticed the Croatian part of the map is white, maybe you could add this old site, which was previously featured in links section here, but went down several years ago and is now accessible through archive.org: http://web.archive.org/web/201003271413 ... l.cjb.net/

Thank you! I had been searching forever for a working archive-link to that old article but never found one. Will be added on the next update.

Btw, do you know who's behind the article? I'd love to give it a proper home at the Corroseum website (...and fix that messy wall-of-text layout in the process)
