Question about METALLICA's Ride The Lightning Tape

Post by Hexed Cemetery »

A friend of mine bought this Ride Lightning Tape from 1984 to another guy, who claimed this to be 100% original 1984's Music For Nations' release and no bootleg.
Ok, he got the tape but comparing with this one from Discogs there are many differences:
http://www.discogs.com/Metallica-Ride-T ... se/1592958

· Tape is transparent/black, with tampography instead of stickers
· Tracklist separated by a barcode
· Music For Nations address is completely different. This address seems to be current MFN real address though

My question is, were there different presses in 1984? Is Discogs one fake or is my friend's tape fake??

I'm not an expert, but it's obviously a much later original version.I'm almost sure that there were no barcodes on cassetes in 1984, nor "transparent" tapes. However, this statement is based alone on my poor 80's cassete-experience and in the fact that I bought similar tapes from Music For Nations, only in the early 90's. Maybe, a specialist could clarify things a bit more.

That's what I was thinking about, he has been cheated, let's see some more opinions before I give him the bad news. Thanks!!!

It's a later press, with "vertically extended cover picture and "Bells Toll" misprint on sleeve".
