some of the best "cover" songs appeared on the Tribute To Sepultura sampler:
Sacramentum - Antichrist
Swordmaster - Warriors Of Death
Mystifier - also Warriors Of Death
Defleshed - Beneath The Remains
The Crown - Arise
each and every song hammering the original version down to the ground.

Also the following versions are highly appreciated and in my opinion better than the originals:
The Crown/Crown Of Thorns - Burning Leather (from Bathory)
Headhunter D.C. - Alcool (Dorsal Atlantica cover)
Gehennah - Devil In Disguise
Runemagick - Malicious Paradise (incredible how they are killing with this song, personal highlight)

Therion - Witching Hour (I love it)

one of the lamest cover I ever heard was the Death cover of Painkiller. Horrible. But too many to mention. All the Dwell Record tribute compilations contained massive amounts of crap not worth listing here.
