The "New wave of" doesn't mean the bands had to be new, only the music had to. It's a new wave of metal not a new wave of newcomers ;)
thank you for clarifying with your extended knowledge what was the whole NWoBHM movement for all of us here

now back to my black metal bands
you're welcome! lol

I shouldn't put that winking smiley may be hehehe

Ok maybe I'm the only one here to prefer Dio VS Ozzy.
You think ? I encountered many "true metalheads" that love to claim they prefer the Dio-era and that the "Ozzy-era is for wimps"...

As for me, I love Dio.... mainly in Rainbow. Never liked is collaboration with BS (with the exception or 2-3 tracks here and there but nothing freaking out).
Here is the opposite between local metalheads really.
For me it is due most to a nostalgic feel, and i really think that Dio's voice is more metal, but absolutely I don't think Ozzy's era is for wimps. His voice fits perfectly with the hard rock with dark-psych atmosphere of the 70's. Not so perfect for '80 metal IMO.

Perhaps many say that because of his solo career that is much more commercial than B.S. and that is true. For example nobody here have choosen any Ozzy's song for the top 15 by the way.

About unity of B.S. I agree there were too many changes of line-up after Ozzy, it's right, but I think the only ONE member that is really indispensable in that band is Tony Iommi (the heart and soul of B.S.), and this is shown to the at least 5 great Lp (2 with Dio and 3 with T. Martin), but also this is only a personal point of view.

This was already discussed here I guess. I don't like the idea of opposing both Dio and Ozzy era. I like both. They are very different which proves that Iommi is a very clever songwriter. He can adapt his songwriting to the vocal skills and the personnality of each singer.

Iommi is certainly the center-piece of Sabbath... But damned I like Ozzy and Bill Ward a lot. So I prefer the classic line-up, because it's like a unique entity. But of course Sabbath survived with only Iommi. As for non-Ozzy albums, I like "Born Again" very much. And regarding Ozzy's solo career, It really has nothing to do with NWOBHM imo. It's more basic/classic Hard Rock.

But we are far from NWOBHM here. If you want to discuss about post-Ozzy BLACK SABBATH, you can go here :

Yep, there needs to be at least 150 songs to describe the genre properly. :)
