Arka'n from Togo. Apparently they've been around for about 9 years, but their album just came out this year.

Naturally, that was expected.

Obviously they sound very modern, but I like ethnic percussion mixed in. Seamless.

Too alt/nu/metalcore, maybe? Doubt it's an ethnic bias because there's a few Botswanan HM/DM bands on the Archives at least.

There are a lot of nu/metalcore/alternative bands there...i really can't understand their policy, go figure there is not the MSG page because considered too hard rock (but when i was a teen ager Armed and Ready,Lost Horizons,Into the Arena etc. were considered as metal anthems, what was wrong with them??? ),Def Leppard is there because in their early days played NWOBHM before turning to hard/aor but then i wonder why Praying Mantis is not there etc. etc.

Another interesting band from Africa for me is Vale of Amonition from Uganda,i like their early weird stuff, recently they changed towards a more Gothic /Doom metal sound (actually it seems they improved on their instruments  )

Depends how much metal there is in each band's sound though, according to their policies. I was surprised Soundgarden were on there, but it seems they're included due to the Sabbath influence in their sound.

Probably 'cos no MSG album's mostly metal tho' there's a few classic heavy songs on them.

Do Praying Mantis have a predominantly metal release to their name? Seems they're off M-A for the same reason as a band like Magnum, tho' they're considered part of the NWOBHM.

In case anyone is interested.

They sound pretty modern, I don't see how they can be hard rock. They got classified as nu-metal because of the rap parts, which almost sound like something from an 80s Metallica song or something but a tiny bit more hip-hopish.

I don't even think the Metal Archives' musical tastes are that radically different from mine in the sense that I also don't generally listen to glam metal or metalcore, but will listen to a few bands of those genres. I really cannot say why they consider Motley Crue metal but not Ratt.
