Post by DaN »

These are not on your list (some others I have are the same, no variations from my side)
Omen - Battle Cry LP / Silver labels, no barcode
Omen - Escape to Nowhere / yellow labels, barcode
Fates Warning - Perfect Symmetry / Yellow labels/Enigma logo, barcode
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian / yellow Metal Blade labels, barcode
Anvil - Strength of Steel / black-red Enigma/Metal Blade labels, barcode
Anvil - Pound for Pound / white labels/Enigma logo, barcode
Thrust - Fist held High / Silver labels, no barcode
Candlemass - Nightfall / white chain labels, barcode
Candlemass - Ancient Dreams / white labels, Enigma logo, barcode

May I suggest to upload the different type of labels (I dont have a scanner but they can easily be found on discogs) so we dont describe colors and just "add" the type of the existing and common labels?
These are the ones that were handy at the moment... I have more MB pressings, I just need some more time to check

There is an alternate version of this with brown labels. Also, the outer sleeve has red letters instead of black/white on the front, back, and spine, and it doesn't come with an insert. I believe the white label version is the original pressing.

Let it not be said I never finish what I've started. After spending a ridiculous amount of hours on googling label pictures and catalogue numbers I've finally finished the pressing variations-guide for the Metal Blade label page.
The Corroseum wrote:The payoff for this in-depth nerdery is that we can 1. distinguish which version was the absolute, one-and-only, proper First Pressing of these classics, 2. see how many versions exist and 3. get an idea of in which order they were released and when.

Excellent work, professor! and I mean that in the most positive way possible. IMHO, you should add some later releases anyway.

Thanx Nenad! Ending the list at the last vinyl (Candlemass' "Tales..") makes sense for several reasons. If you look at this list, starting with 1990 there's mostly reissues, license pressings and mediocre 2nd gen thrash, and all of them are CD only. I don't think I will dig any further into MB - there's too many other labels that need the pressings-treatment.

Oops, pm answered.

...and I've basically finished updating another smaller label. Stay tuned...

About Metal Blade pressing oddities, I wonder if anyone has seen this one before:

Just a tiny curio for the die-hard WARLORD-collector I guess. (it's the only copy I've ever seen with an inverted label)
