HELP !!!need info about Sorcery Sinister Soldiers.......

Post by slayer-bootlegs »

Hi
who can tell me details about the original (first press) Sorcery - Sinister Soldiers 2LP?

i have two copies:

first copie:
- 2 LP
- heavy cardboard (old style)
- 1978 Century Records on the cover are all stickers (3 sticker in total)
- Century Records stickers on the labels
- Matrix on the records looks like "handwritten"

second copie:
- 2 LP
- heavy cardboard (old style)
- 1978 Century Records on the cover are printed
- Century Records stickers on the labels
- Matrix on the records looks more "machine made" as the Matrix from the first copie...

thanx to all.....

BR
Tom

i have two copies:

first copie: This is a second run but still original as the first FIRST press had NO STICKERS and no printing. BUT to really tell if this is an origianl 2nd press you have to look under the stickers on the cover and make sure there is no printing.-
2 LP
- heavy cardboard (old style)
- 1978 Century Records on the cover are all stickers (3 sticker in total)
- Century Records stickers on the labels
- Matrix on the records looks like "handwritten"

second copie: BOOT
- 2 LP
- heavy cardboard (old style)
- 1978 Century Records on the cover are printed
- Century Records stickers on the labels
- Matrix on the records looks more "machine made"

thanx to all.....

Yeah, i just had the same problem some weeks ago.

There's a simple rule: when you have no idea if you have the original or not, then in almost every case someone fooled you with the boot. Very easy, right
Where were you in '79 when the dam began to burst

Does it look anything like this re-issue http://cgi.ebay.ca/SORCERY-SINISTER-SOL ... 1030wt_941
There are quite a few originals on popsike that you could compare them to.

Hi
yes i found this on Popsike, so you can say the versions with and without stickers are first press....the ones with printed details are repress, counterfeit, boots ...whatever......

Sorcery: "Sinister Soldiers" (2 LP) 1978, USA/Century 45484. SEALED original private pressing, there is a light crease across the lower corner at the front pocket, but it's still a M- cover. This copy was acquired from a band member in the very early 1990s, and has no text printed on the spine, and no text printed at the bottom of the back cover. I've been recently informed that these are characteristics of the very first pressing, and that the band added stickers to the spine and back cover of some copies for copyright purposes. There may have been a later pressing with this information printed on the cover, but the first pressing did not have it, so this copy is absolutely not a counterfeit of any kind. Rare debut LP from this Illinois band was a big-ticket item way back in the mid-1980s, as it crosses over from metal into heavy psych zones. Doomy riffing on tracks like "Snowsh*t", "Fly The Sky", "Sorcerer", "Schitzoid", et. al. make collectors of this genre salivate uncontrollably... add a killer gatefold jacket with tons of creepy art and pics and suddenly demand outpaces supply.

The details on the spine and the bottom backside of the cover are printed small white pieces of paper that are pasted on. The top of the spine has “Sorcery / Sinister Soldiers” and the bottom of the spine and backside has “©1978 CENTURY RECORDS, INC.”.
The labels have “Century RECORDS” logo on a white oval sticker on top of the RED LABEL. The RED LABEL also has “SINISTER SOLDIERS” under the logo, under SINISTER SOLDIERS is “SORCERY”, the left side of label has the SIDE, the right side has the label number of “45484” and the bottom of the label list the tracks and time all in black.[
