Some new discover about ealry heavy metal in Bangladesh and India

Post by demophil »

As life here in Mongolia is deadly boring and - of course, as usual - no metal fan here want to have contacts with foreigners (bastards!) I was making some researches on other asian countries which have a scarce and inappropriate database of information

1) Today I just found there was another heavy metal band in Bangladesh which released a tape album. It was even before the mighty Rockstrata, Warfaze and In Dhaka:

the name is কীতিনাশা (Kirtinasha) and the album is self titled.
I guess it was released around 1988/1989, with a 3-piece line up. It's the only album made by this band:

The guys at the Ashik Music facebook page promised me to send more information and mp3...I hope to get a full tracklist and check how it is...so I can share and add it on Metal-Archives and Discogs (oops...no, not on discogs, those bastards banned me)

2) Researches about heavy metal in India.

Finally I found a picture of the Millennium's debut Ep "Born to reign", recorded in 1993 (and not in 1989 as stated on M-A: that is the year of foundation of the band). Here it is:

Image

good and surprising thrash, as you can see from their "Only be one" track:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj4MeQngs2c

3) About Post Mark and their album "Stamp On You": I got this message from the guys at the Rock Music Manipur facebook:

"we have been on the lookout for the same for years but havent got it (the cassette tape). post mark band themselves had put on local newspaper even asking people/ fans to give them a copy of the cassette if anybody has, but they got no positive response"

4) I made a list of early metal bands active in India in the 80's....almost all of them came from Manipur state (close to the border with Myanmar/Burma) and were mainly cover bands with very few original songs. Very few other bands were active in other Indian states or big towns like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbay. Here's a possibly complete list of all metal bands of those times:

5) I am still searching for the WARHEAD "Meltdown" (1985) tape album, the first heavy metal album ever recorded in the Philippines. The 2 contacts I found a few years ago obviously vanished in the air. People in local facebook pages and music forum dedicated to heavy metal never replied.... we will see, eh

6) I found another early record from the Philippines:

City Limits: Pesteng bisyo / Para sa iyo 7" (year unknown, maybe around 1988)

while the A side (Para sa iyo) sucks, the B Side (Pesteng Bisyo) is good heavy metal/hard rock/street rock, I mean not too bad. I saw it was sold for a few dollars not a long time ago. Of course no information and no knowlegde on philipinos metal forums. I heard one comment which enlight a lot about the presevation and memories of local metal overthere: "sorry bro but at that time there was no mp3 or itunes, that's why this music disappeared"....well....I am speechless

in any case, here you can listen to "Para sa iyo" which is good. The other song sucks, so I don't put the link, you can find it on youtube, anyway :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tyCBnVKX0M

7) Mongolia: Ayasiin Salkhi demos + information on other metal bands from Mongolia in the 80's and 90's: nothing as usual. I am sick of these idiots. It seems they don't want to share their information with foreigners. Only Hurd count. "Why listen to other unsuccessful bands? They deserve to be forgotten because they had no success". That's the only information I got.
Trying to get in touch with Ayasiin Salkhi....zero, nothing, silence. Fans, rockers, people involved in music: zero, nothing, silence. Ok, Mongolia is a closed chapter. They want to be by themselves. Ok, please, help yourselves and good luck.

THanks for this post, much appreciated !

If these bands did any demotapes, I want them for the cool bandnames alone :
Black Sultan (Manipur, with Paul Marudai Gangmei, 1985)
Dark Krusaders/Drixian Empire (Churchandpur/Manipur, 1986-1993):

to find informations about bands, releases, tracklist and album from India is one of the most difficult thing in the world

Maybe it's a matterof culture, maybe they don't care about discographies but even if a band was successful and released a lot of album, they are never mentioned in their discography or in their biography. It's only "their most successful hit was..." or "they are remembered for this or that song"....
In any case I doubt they ever recorded an album...if they did, I could find a mention somewhere...but we never know. It seems discographies in India are the less important detail when it comes to talk about one band....

You're missing a band :

Ravage - who recorded a tape "Dream Slayer" in 1992.
Quite Epic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and was a good surprise when i first heard it.
Both Priamos and DoomedPlanet also enjoyed it.

Here's a pic :

do you have a pic of this Ravage tape? and a tracklist or some additional information?

I made a research as - as usual - the few webistes with a biography don't mention their album or an additional discography.

If you have a scan and a tracklist would be nice

News (oldies) from Pakistan....it seems there was a heavy metal scene active already in 1985....trying to find some names and bands, fortunately there are a bit more information and useful datas than as for the indian scene, with (surprise!) even discographies and album titles...incredible!

The first names I found:

1) FINAL CUT (with two different singers: Shehzad Mughal, Rizwan Khan, 1987-1991): they recorded only a few songs. Most of them can be seen on Youtube. Not sure of a possible album, I saw it was mentioned in some comment
Songs known - it seems these are the only songs ever recorded, 3 with one singer and 3 with the other singer. But this is in contraddiciton with a comment where somebody said he was used to listen to their album (unless it was a tape ep):

Mere sath/Meray saath (1990),
Mein chal deya/Mein chaldia/Main chuldiya (1989),
Dastaan (1989),
Nayee umang,
Jab ham saath hongay,
Jhoomay yeh sama

some link here:

Meray saath (not bad!!!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rqaKyxwpis

Mein chal deya
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNVZMRg4dmc

Jhoomay yeh sama (not bad at all despite the awful costumes, lights and settings!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va-KWxFIP7Y

2) THE BARBARIANS (with Asad Ahmed, Jamal Afridi, 1987/1990)
Formed in the same years of FINAL CUT - they were both considered the best heavy metal bands in the 80's/early 90's (so I wonder if there were other bands, at this point) and they surprisingly made one album

Discography:

Yeh Zindagi Hai aka S/T Tape Album (EMI, 1990)
Yeh zindagi Track 1987

this is the official video of their 1987 track:

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=60 ... =2&theater

and here there is a review of their 1990 only album:

http://bringbackvitalsigns.com/karavan/barbarians.htm

3) DHUN (with Fawad Baloch, around 1996)

Image

They recroded a tape album in 1996, "Jawaan aur azaad", 14 songs
the quality is vary, from hard rock to heavy metal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6NLS9ftaKw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJKkz1Vub9A

4) OVERDRIVE (1995)

Discography:
"Anarchist Growl" Tape Album 1995...released in 2004 as download release only

nothing special....grunge rock/metal....

http://www.sangeetradio.com/music/Pakis ... dition.mp3

5) AXE ATTACK (with Aamir Zaki, Karachi, 1984-1986):

"The bomb" Tape 1985

No other info or link

6) ELIXIR and EASTERN BOYZ (Islamabad, 1993-1995)

They both released one song only:

Bekhudi (aka Tishnagi) for ELIXIR and "Gorey Rang Pe" for EASTERN BOYZ on a local compilation tape.
Interesting hard rock with synth and heavy guitars + solos and a good power start for Elixir
weird (but extremely catchy!) mix of low fi metal with lots of guitar solos + double bass pedal electronic drum and pakipop/bollywod music for Easter Boyz (????). Actually I really like it!

Discography:

ELIXIR: "Bekhudi" aka "Tishnagi"
and
EASTERN BOYZ: "Gorey Rang Pe" aka "Goray Rang Te Basanti Jora Ni Kuriye Kamaal Lagda"

on "Video Junction - Step 1" Compilation Tape 1994

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMWDNYO9HU8 (Elixir)
http://www.hulkshare.com/xtrarock/goray ... stern-boys (Eastern Boyz)

Other names I came across: INCISION, KAINATH (early 90's death metal a la Morbid Angel from Karachi: they recorded 2 demos and then changed name into KOSMOS), KRASH and SCRATCH (two side project of the guys in FINAL CUT, 1987), MESSIAH (????), MIDNIGHT MADNESS (Lahore), MIDNIGHT LINER/RADIATION (Karachi, 1986-1991), POWER HOUSE (covering songs of Steve Vai, Malmsteen, Judas Priest in the late 80's), ....I will try to find more information and update this list soon.

I left out of this list bands as FARAZ ANWAR (guitar virtuoso/shredwho released a solo album in 1994, "Untitled" released only in 2004 as a download release only), METAL PURGE (1995-1997 who later became BLACK WARRANT: early Metal Purge recordings are compiled in the "Resurrection 1995-1997" CD) and DUSK (who released several demos from 1995 onward) as they are already listed on M-A
