??
What are you referring to? I've stated before in this thread that I'm not looking for bands with gothic horror lyrics, but rather early bands influenced by Gothic Rock and Post-punk.
Anacrusis?
I don't understand? The influence of angsty Post-punk bands like Killing Joke, The Cure and (duh) New Model Army is a defining characteristic of their last 2 albums? Vocally, musically too.

What a great thread! Lots of tips here that I need follow up on when time permits (i.e. in a year or two...)

Listening to the horrendous modern version of goth/metal crossover it's surprising that it worked so well in the past. Maybe becasue the formula wasn't that set back then, neither for Metal nor goth - it opened up for some originality and creativity.

On the Metal-w/-goth-influences side of things my faves would include COVEN, TROP FEROSS, MANIMALS, first STILLBORN, TABBASA, BLACK HOLE.. maybe THE MEZMERIST would fit as well?

I'm actually not a big fan of even the early goth stuff, but I've listened to a lot of weird post-punk and new wave through the years so when I hear something really original like goth/post-punk with a Metalish vibe I'm usually hooked. Fave in this field is BLOODSTAR (search Poisonoise), German WARNING, MIGHTY SPHINCTER, SEX GANG CHILDREN and probably some more I've forgotten about..

MechaBarbarian's mention of Anacrusis made me think of this amazing THE KRIXHJÄLTERS song that was a bonus on the "Evilution" CD. It's starts off like fairly basic PowerThrash but wait until that chorus...
