Ask any MTV viewer about a band named Grim Reaper and I'm sure you'll see just raised eyebrows.

I think BRAINSTORM have also covered VICIOUS' RUMOURS' Don't Wait For Me. I don't know if it's officially recorded somewhere, but I remember them playing it in a gig 10+ years ago.

One more to add

GHOSTRIDER (pre-NECRODEATH) have covered OMEN's The Axeman during a rehearsal in '84. That's the same year Battle Cry was released, talking about one of OMEN's earliest fans

People growing up in the 90s will at least remember their videos being shown on Beavis and Butt-head. That's where I first heard Grim Reaper

Now, this ought to be interesting.

Where can I hear this?
Pardon me, they didn't record this cover, just one of the Grim Reaper ones. They did this cover live before their full length came out, they did it as a duet with the singer from my band Gatekeeper. Trying to find video on youtube, no luck thus far.

Oh yeah, Funeral Circle also recorded a cover of Lord Ryur, "Pact with a Sinner". Cult!

Solstice covered "Stormchild" by Trespass, probably more where that came from, too

Thanks guys! Some interesting stuff posted here for sure. I was looking to see if the Cauldron covers that Element0s mentioned had been released and discovered another of theirs:

Cauldron - Making Noise And Drinking Beer (Tyrant)

Rob, that is a great story. I wonder how many other people you indirectly introduced to Legend!

As I said, everyone will have a different opinion about what is obscure, however I think it's safe to say bands like Grim Reaper, Helloween, Metal Church and Anvil are beyond the scope of this thread (on a forum such as this, anyway). On the other hand, if people think Angel Witch is obscure enough, there is an entire Angel Witch tribute album with the following bands:

1. FIRE - Confused
2. EARTH FLIGHT - White Witch
3. VOREX - Gorgon
4. CUSTARD - Frontal Assault
5. WITCHES MARK - Something Wrong
6. TORMENT - Sweet Danger
7. EMERALD - Dr. Phibes/Dream World
8. CRYSTAL VIPER - Atlantis
9. RAISING FEAR - Angel Witch
10. NEVER COMES SILENCE - Evil Games
11. BAD INFLUENCE - Angel of Death
12. LUCIFER’S SON - Straight From Hell
13. ELVENPATH - Loser
14. DAWN OF WINTER - Sorceress
15. NOT FRAGILE - Extermination Day

Isn't it sort of the thing these days to cover 'obscure' bands...?

Past 2 shows we also did a Run With The Devil cover ;)

Sign Of the Jackal - Head Over Heels(Meghan)
Hyborian Steel - Heavy Metal Heaven (Heavy Load)
Noble Savage - Dreaming(Heavy Load)
Hammerfall did a compilation album of covers, some more obscure than others, but defiantly worth checking out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masterpiec ... l_album%29
