Proto-thrash songs?

Post by Obscured »

Hi, I'm trying to compile a list of proto-thrash songs, anyone care to add?

Judas Priest “Exciter (Live)”
Queen “Brighton Rock”
Motorhead “Overkill”
GBH "Necrophilia"
Black Sabbath "Symptom Of The Universe"
Diamond Head “Sucking My Love”
Jaguar “Stormchild”
Aragorn "Black Ice"
Anvil "666"

Thanks,

Ian

You must include several VENOM tracks.

As for BÖC or Black Sabbath, I doubt any 70's band could be considered as proto-thrash.

No matter what they sound like? I mean, Priest's Exciter must be pretty close to proto-thrash, whatever "proto-thrash" is.

Gomorrha - Dance On A Volcano has almost thrash-like riffs.

Most of those songs are just uptempo heavy rock/metal.

Proto thrash is more like Court In The Act or Fire Power thrashy riffs in more heavy metal orientated material.

I guess you're right. Whenever someone mentions the word "proto-thrash" the first bands that come into my mind are Satan and Atomkraft. :D

Some good suggestions! Keep them coming please. I've always had Venom down as Thrash Metal Year Zero so I've not included them.

Aren't you mixing up proto Speed Metal with Thrash? I mean "Fast as a shark" or early Jaguar is pure Speed Metal.
Proto-Thrash would be imo Venom's "Black Metal" (the song) and Slayer's debut naturally.
In case you mean proto-Speed Metal you need to add Resistencia's "Muerto en vida" from their debut LP 1981. It fucken shredz!

I'm agree with the statement of LehtylSteel.

Thrash mean a Punk side... anyway I don't even want to start thinking of what proto-thrash could be, but instinctively I would skip Sabbath, BOC or Accept, or proto-speed/speed stuffs.
