Atomic Rock "The Spy" on Metal Power II sounds like a guy is singing.

Hollandheavymetal says that Atomic Rock started out with a female singer but at some point they did change to a male singer, probably before Metal Power II track.

Here is another track you missed:
Lydian (USA) - "Sky Is On Fire", Sky Is On Fire 7", 1985

This one may be too hard rock, but I'll post it anyway and let you decide:
Hard Roads Band (USA) - "It's A Hard Road", It's A Hard Road 7", 1983

Are Hardton from Romania heavy enoguh to be taken into consideration?

http://www.hardton.com/?show=biografie-hardton

They were from Targoviste and they released 2 songs for the "Formatii Rock Vol. 7" Compilation Lp in 1984 with the female singer Sanda lacatus (she sang also in legendary Iris briefly), the only 2 songs available from the 80's

They recorded also 2 songs in 1983 ("Cer fara nori" and "Ritm de rock") and 1984 ("Niciodata nu e prea tarziu", "Muzica izvor de bucurie")

I think "Drumul vietii" from "Formatii Rock Vol. 7" is pretty close to hard-metal, isn't it?

shit, did they have any recordings from the 80s?

i havent heard Hardton, will have to investigate. edit: yes, i would say its quite metal! thanks!

looks like I can cross the Metal Power II 7" off my list... now the question remains if atomic rock's track on that tape comp has the female singer

thanks kier for those tracks - Hard Roads Band is a bit too hard rock but the lydian is perfect!! will be posting another update this weekend, looks like dropbox suspended my account for too much traffic so i'll have to find another host... trying file.am at the moment, we'll see how that one works

thanks for the reminder, forgot about that, I just checked “When the Hammer Comes Down” tape, also male vocalist here. Great song though.

Is Suzorje (Belarus) too much Rock for this compilation? The female band member sings on a few tracks on their release from 1988.

I haven't heard the Elixir (UK) demo, but I would like to, the first one with Sally Pike on vocals.

Great blog! Just seen that you search for Laura Kaye. This is the only track I have:

is there an earlier demo than the one from 84 (or live/reh tracks)? the one from 84 has the same guy from son of odin singing on it

She was the first singer, he is on the (supposedly) 1985 demo, assuming the dates on the Metal Archives are not 1 year off.

However, according to the history on Elixir's page, the dates from the Archives seem indeed to be off, the first demo is from 1983 and the second from 1984.

gotcha - i think what the deal is is that the first demo isn't on m-a at all. for the first demo on m-a, it lists a tracklisting of:

1. Deal with the Devil 03:53
2. Born Loser 04:52
3. Dead Man's Gold 04:23

i was able to hear this demo and its def not sally singing... whereas the elixir page says:
The band look for a vocalist and recruit female singer Sally Pike. They record a four song demo tape at Bark Studios, Walthamstow, and play two gigs at The Green Man, Stratford, before they part company with Sally.
the key phrase being "four track demo". my guess is that it wasn't nearly as circulated as the 84 + 85 demos, which all seem relatively easy to come by
