EXCESS

Post by Astra Wally »

I'm in touch with Francis Frenoy, the guitarist who has played in the legendary heavy metal band EXCESS.

Hopefully, an interview is in the work.

I know there are some fans of this godly french act on the forum, so if someone want me to ask Francis any specific questions, etc... let me know. Thanks

Now let's discuss how good their first album is and how 'fatal touch' is hard to find :D

I got the second one before the first actually, but my purchasing habits are beyond the norm as i've been told many times. But yeah, the first one does it for me, top french metal together with DER KAISER, ADX, first STEEL ANGEL and so on.

Personally I like both albums a lot, "The Fatal Touch" is a killer tune! Their MCD however was quite a let down if I remember right. I have to give it a spin again....

I quite like their mcd but sure it sounds much more accessible (and weaker) than their previous work. Unfortunately almost impossible to find too.

I keep coming back to "Fatal Touch" way more often than other supposed French Classics like SORTILEGE, ADX, H-BOMB etc... A bloody superb album, and very original too I think. Sadly I got into it for real shortly after trading away the original LP and by Cock do I regret it :(

I just love the squeaky-clean production of this LP - for once this sound really works perfect with the music - Majestic Metal! EXCESS = The French WARLORD?

Q-suggestions:

- How come their 2nd album ended up on an obscure Spanish label with piss-poor distribution?

- Did they ever got confused with the Spanish EXCESS ("Princess Of Darkness" LP on Justine Records '88 ) because of this?

Thanks Dan

I've send many questions to Francis today. It will turn out very interesting I hope.

Didn't know about the Spanish EXCESS

Not so many opinions... I thought that the band was more popular within the corroseum forum

The first one is a French classic in my book; superb songs. The first song has such a great drive. Really, love this one to death. Never heard the second. Would be cool rereleasing their stuff.

I have an idea of where to feature an English translation of the interview if no one else is interrested
