UNICORN - The Legend Returns

Post by Sgt. Kuntz »

Got some email exchange recently with Holger, former axeman of legendary UNICORN. He told me more about his band, they recorded "The Legend Returns" EP in 1987 as a promo album, to send it to labels, producers and magazines. 500 copies were made, all on clear wax. Soon after the recordings the band split up, after some disputes, because two members didn't want to pay for the studio bill and left the band.

But they recorded one more demo song, "Fool's Game", which you can download here:

Should be the first time that this song is available, it was never released on any format. I also included two songs, which they recorded ten years later with the follow up band LIVING DAYLIGHT.

Here's a picture of his remaining copies:

Tell me what you think about of the songs, Holger is reading this one and curious to hear your opinions i'm sure. And he doesen't sell any copies (any more).

Very nice songs, I really enjoyed The Hunt.

Do you know if he is selling his spare copies of The Legend Returns? I've been on and off (mostly off) been looking for one.

I've always thought that the EP was excellent, but then again, I've been told in the past that I'm a sucker for mediocre German Metal... The EP has some great galloping Maiden-esque riffs and a competent, operatic vocalist. I have to admit though that I first heard this band through the shitty "Racer Records" split bootleg CD's... Anyways, I'll give these songs a shot.

Thanks.

EDIT: The picture you provided is "Metal Conquest" material though, not sure how it's relevant to this thread.

That's what I get for getting my hopes up by not reading properly :(

Does anyone know why he needs 17 copes? :P (Yes, I counted them)

I am guessing the "any more" means that Sgt bought them all. Would love to get one of those.

He's rich, that's why.

See the "Recent Metal Finds" thread.

Haha, you're on the wrong track guys.

He sold only five copies to five different people. And i told him right away that they have a certain market value. The rest of his stock he keeps for his kids and grandkids as he told me. Okay, i'll ask him if he's still in contact with the other band members, maybe they'll have some spare copies as well. but i think others have tried that already, don't know...

You should tell him that he'd only have to sell a couple of those EP's on ebay to cover the cost of a new couch.
