Italian metal

Post by zeuhl »

As I admitted in the thread on the Tegen Hart LP on Poisonoise, my knowledge in Italian metal in general is shamefully low. I own (the re-release of) and worship every second of DARK QUARTERER's self titled debut LP but other than that, a couple other of bands and a few single songs I've heard from a handful of different groups, I know basically nothing.

Educate me, please! ;) Thanks in advance!

I've been listening to Masters Of Fate (2008) by Etrusgrave quite a lot past few days, thanks to mighty Fulberto Serena's guitar playing+songwriting it has that classic Dark Quarterer sound all over it.

(Got it from Firebox discount sale for 4,90€, so go for it.)

You couldn't ask for a better Beginner's Lesson. Have a quick listen at VOD: http://vibrationsofdoom.com/test/DangerZone.html

Thanks everyone, although a few words on the style each band plays would be really helpful! Or do they all simply sport the obscure, indescribable Italian sound?

Only the Dark Lord MLP though, and Astaroth is pretty weak.

Adramelch - Irae Melanox is one of my favorites. Really good and original progressive/power metal. Kind of like a mix of Fates Warning, Helloween and Warlord.

For me there are three outstanding Italian bands, the fabulous ADRAMELCH and DARK QUARTERER have been mentioned, and BERSERKS with their only album "Berserks" are unbelievable good.

Early, pure metal with a heavy NWOBHM influence, comparable to Brocas Helm! Hard to find though.
