Does anyone know what's going on with the box set from Miskatonic? It's been a very long time since it was announced and we are still in waitng. To be honest, i foresee a not so good ending to this story.

In case you didn't realise, THE LAMP OF THOTH are now part of the MISKATONIC empire. Words cannot express how happy I am about this, rarely does England produce such quality mystical occult orientated Doom. They harken back to the elders of our beloved metal history such as PAGAN ALTAR, HELL or DEEP SWITCH. I predict geat things from them, listeing to their demo's sends shivers down my spine.

I finished the layouts for the WARNING CD, will go to press I hope in the next week. DESOLATION ANGELS will follow shortly after I recieve the WARNING back, we need to adjust some of the layouts on that (DA) and address some packaging issues quickly. DESTRUCTOR is postponed until I work out something with Jamie, it WILL happen, just not sure when, time constraints mean they cannot get into a studio just yet.

Will begin mastering HELL in the new year, need to meet up with Kev and Tony ASAP, so thats on the cards for around late spring I hope for the CD release first. THE LAMP OF THOTH album will be recorded next year too, hopefully spring, but we have to make sure everything is OK at their end first. Also around then should be PAGAN ALTAR "Mythical & Magical" on limited vinyl, and summer should see the release of the COLD MOURNING Demo's LP and THE LAMP OF THOTH CD

Represses will be made of the first SLOUGH FEG CD and REVELATION "Frozen masque" all been well. By then I hope to generate enough money to pay REVELATION their royalties at long last, and break into profit on the SLOUGH FEG seeing as Mike Scalzi spends money like nobody's business on hot tubs and masseurs.....

No prices are decided yet, just please wait. Once the ball gets rolling, it will seem unstoppable I hope. Somewhere amongst all that too will be HAIL BRITANNIA II as well....

We are still owed close to £1000 in debts from various individuals and mail orders, the time to pay will be soon or vengeance will be upon them

Over and out.
I guess I'm the only one in the world who find DESOLATION ANGELS just a tiny bit overrated?

Sometimes Dan you really impress me. I mean you find bands such as PAGAN ALTAR or TROP FEROSS great and on the other hand you consider DESOLATION ANGELS a bit overrated. No offence is meant, i just find it weird somehow. I know that taste varies from person to person and i am a bit picky too as far as obscure metal is concerned, but i don't think that DA is a case of a cult band i.e. Love it or hate it stuff. Their S/T LP is a great piece of HEAVY NWOBHM, they're way more metallic than hundrends of other bands that are regarded as NWOBHM, most of the demo tracks are just incredible etc. Maybe you don't like the change of their style on ''The fire still burns'' demo, however i can hardly accept that someone who's into obscure NWOBHM doesn't like neither DA's music approaches. Maybe it's me the one who's wrong, but i'd really like to hear the reasons you find DA overrated anyway.

I've only heard the 7" and LP by DA so my final judgement will have to wait until I get a chance to hear the demos. As for the vinyls I think they include some great, solid Metal songs, but also several less exciting ones. I'd put them in the same medium league as hundreds of other contemporary, not-too-original-but-well-worth-checking-out bands on labels like Mausoleum, Scratch etc. I no way do they approach the genious of such masters like PAGAN ALTAR, HELL or TRÖJAN (UKs most underrated LP ever?). My reasons are simply their uneven quality of songwriting and lack of originality.

I understand what you mean Dan and you got a point in the songwriting issue. The LP is not absolutely flawless, a 10 out of 10 record, however i can't compare the best moments of DA with the best moments of a band from Mausoleum such as CROSSFIRE or KILLER. DA's killer tracks are of the highest order, real metal monuments, it's rather an unsuccessful -if not disgracing- comparison between them and a typical cool-but-not-outstanding band from Mausoleum or Scratch. That's my opinion.

DA sound was based on BLACK SABBATH, no one can deny that. However, tracks like ''Evil Possessor'', ''Valhalla'', ''Running for your life'' etc prove that a little authenticity/personal elements was/were also thrown in DA's metal blender. Besides, the same thing regarding originality can be also said for bands like WITCHFINDER GENERAL, WITCHFYNDE, PENTAGRAM, SAINT VITUS etc whose sound was based completely on Iommi's riffology. Were all of them just shameless copies of BS? I doubt it.

I suggest your hear their demo material asap. Better vocals, greater songwriting but more American soundwise, especially the ''Fire still burns'' demo. Let me know what think of them when the audition is over.

I will make my bilious comments on PAGAN ALTAR another time.

I've always placed them alongside witchfinder general, cloven hoof, demon, pagan altar and a few others as some of the more dark elemented nwobhm, you can only handle so much of the saxon types or the keyboard dominted stylings of white spirit or the quite poppy quartz.

Does anyone of you have an idea how much the "Valhalla"-7" is worth?
I never ever found it in any tradelist...
Thanks.

I totally agree with Dan. Can't understand the fuss either. DA is plain rumble metal, just check out that ramshackle drum work for instance. Anyway, I dropped the Miskatonic Foundation an e-mail concerning the upcoming DA release months ago, and on July 17, Rick replied: "OK, got that, should be going to press in around 14-20 days time finally....". Something's seeming to go quite awry here...

I think Goatstorm is referring to DESOLATION ANGEL's "Valhalla" 7". I've NEVER seen it for anything close to 30-40 euros though, more in the 100 euros area. I think there's 2 different pressings too (if I'm not confusing it with the ELEXIR 7"?)
