My favorite is Savatage - When the Crowds Are Gone. In general I don't like ballads much.

I'm not fond of ballads, but here are some I enjoy :

METAL CHURCH - Gods of Wrath
WARNING - Tel que tu l'imaginais
BLASPHEME - Seul
BLACK SABBATH - Changes
JUDAS PRIEST - Beyond the Realms of Death (maybe one of the 10 most brilliant songs ever written)

Yep Badlands is what got me into the Howe era of Metal Church. Amazing song I almost put it in my ballad list but went with Gods of Wrath instead.

I like "Anthem to estranged" more. And it's more balladesque than "Badlands", which is a great tune as well.

Yuch! I feel all gooey just thinking about bloody schmallads..

Still, I have to 2 big faves of the genre:

RAINBOW - touch the rainbow (live version from "On Stage")
&
JUDAS PRIEST - epitaph (I really fucking miss Halford's darker vocal style from the early albums)
