deathster wrote:Yes it was great festival. I visted last day because I wanted to see (especially) Black Coffee (Tshorni Kofe) but they did not come. Instead AVGUST played. I still remember SHAH from that day. For that particular time and place they were HEAVY and thrashing.
Cool... what about KATEDRA and GGG's performances? In my opinion they're both better than AUGUST, TJORNIJ KOFE, SHAH and bla bla, hehe.

Yea, I held it in my hand when in Tallinn ca 4 weeks ago, but was too lazy to buy it. A pity maybe. But are the post-Polemine tracks by Gunnar Graps any good? Didn't he change style after that record?

Of course GGG was (and still is) great. But I liked Tshorni Kofe also. Hey, what do you want from 10 year old boy? GGG was local legend. You should buy this CD box, it has many old tracks (also from Põlemine times).

Had TJORNIJ KOFE played in my hometown I would most likely have visited the gig, yes, hehe.

Another thing, anyone heard Latvian DESSERT and their EP "Rocking from Riga"? Released in the beginning of the 90's (Soviet times) I recall. Band name and title aren't really promising, but apart from LIVI (hard rock) and PILIGRIM (yes, one from Latvia as well! pretty good too) they are the only 80's HR/HM related band from Latvia that I know of. In the Baltic States Lithuania seemed to have the best 80's scene, though very few released an album as mentioned earlier. Then Estonia, last Latvia.

Hmm.... I think Estonia had many cool metal, hard rock, punk bands from mid-late 80s to early 90s. Worth mentioning are GGG, Varaan, Singer Vinger, Vanemõde, JMKE (punk), Velikije Luki (punk rock)... I love all these! First thrash act that got recognized in 1989/90 was Shower (stupid name).... their vinyl appearance came in 1990 in one compilation LP with 2 trx.

I have the DESSERT mlp. Surely not a complete pile of crap at all, 2-3 heavier cuts + the usual hair/ballad fillers if memory serves me right. Nothing essential but if you (like me) enjoy having at least 1 album from every country in the world you can't really be that picky when it comes to Latvia.

Totally right. Check out this interesting article about PILIGRIM (LV), sound samples included:

There is also an obscure compilation called Lituanika '87 ,From Melodyia label , that contains unreleased tracks from Katedra, Lyvi , Gunnar Graps and other bands but not all bands are metal or even hard rock.

P.S. Gunnar Graps died in 2004. R.I.P.

hello, this is my first post in this forum, but I follow it regularly

As I am always in search of "exotic" old metal stuff, expecilly from East-ex socialist Europe, I think it's nice to post here some stuff I found

unfortunately I broke my hard disk a couple of weeks ago and I lost something like 800 GB of rare stuff...I'll try to fid it again, but a good 60% of rare stuff is definitively lost :-(

anyway, here there is some curious old heavy/rock from the 80's:

SVARAS 409:
http://rapidshare.com/files/205179448/S ... x.rar.html

some tracks, dating late 80's, should be different recordings.
Not bad hard rock/heavy metal

S.B.S.:

ROKO LABORATORIJA: 2 recording sessions from 1985 and 1986

http://rapidshare.com/files/205186252/R ... 5.rar.html

http://rapidshare.com/files/205188764/R ... 6.rar.html

PLACKARTAS: unknown recordings from the 80's (3 of them are in .ogg format):

I was looking for the following other bands, there was a link but it has expired a long time ago:

-Katedra: demo recordings from 1987 (there's on soulseek but I can't download them)

-Orkus: I know there are at least 2 songs from the 80's

-Seifas: the instrumental song

-Trylika: Mes dieivai song

-Rokai: 3 songs that I found on internet some time ago, before crashing my hard disk

-Kvadratas: there's a tape with 9 songs...no idea what is it

-Non Stop: I know there are a lot of songs...

-Medium (Mediumas): some songs

and I was looking also for this stuff, from Estonia:

-Palat: Tape with unreleased tracks
-Aggressor: Indestructible rehearsal 1990
-Postmortem: Gniloy communism

It's not easy to get informations about countries like Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania ... I had some of the such above mentioned songs and I lost everything...it would be nice if somebody can upload them, expecially Katedra, Palat and Postmortem

Nekropol

Some of the best DeathDoom bands I ever heard. Their demo from 1993 was pressed on CD by German Imperium Recrords (the label that released the Kaamos LPs). They have this mourning Swedish Death Metal lead guitar in their songs at times. Absolutely fabulous. Insane. Killer.

Listen to the song "Called At The Grave". Isn't this total killer. Especially the sound of the rhythm guitar in the background. Aaaarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah, I remember Palat guys from already year 1986/87 ..they were many years older then me and they were into stuff like Kreator while I was Metallica fan at that time. 1 or 2 guys lived in a house next to mine. There exists some video material from period 1988/89 but I think they never released official tape-album.
Aggressor can be labeled as first death metal band (at least who got the attention in 1990/91). Their old demos are released on CD too some years ago. Of course they played Hellhammer cover "Aggressor" at gigs in 1990/91. Some of the guys went to the same school than me. These guys were into thrash/death metal since 1984/85. At that time it was cool and pop here so thats from where I got "infection" too.
Postmortem was active early 90s, quito OK, but I liked band called Embryoctomy. Really cool deathrash with great vocals.
If you know Palat, then you must know Shower too. They recorded their thrash songs in 1989 and those wetre released at comp lp in 1990.

Where is it available?

GGG Triple CD Box Set is available in many Estonian shops...I think in Finland too, as my italian friend who lives in Helsinki bought it for me some time ago.
It has the whole "Polemine" Lp (minus 1 song, "Kuningas") on it as well as new songs and old songs from the period when he played with the "Magnetic Band". The songs recorded for the "Polemine" Lp are all on the 3rd CD, and I think you can buy it separately too.

The other 2 cds feature a collection of best hits recorded with different side projects and solo projects but they're not metal.

You can find it easily in a lot of online estonian shop, the name is:

Gunnar Graps: "Eesti kullafond"

I know there is a CD discography of Omas Kojas called "1987-1989" on OK Records, an old label from Estonia, but I couldn't find it anywhere: does anybody has it for sale? I am searching it for years now...
