NECRONOMICON is a decent band. "Requiem der Natur", "In Memoriam" and "Die Stadt" are cool tunes. I like others a bit more. Is it one of the heaviest of the '70s, though? Mmm, not sure I agree with that, but it has some steel in it that's for sure. ...and I dig mellow p...

Seems to me that German '80s bands had it pretty roughly in their day, especially given their talent. If these bands were from Holland they'd have pressed a vinyl even if they sucked. Granted, it wouldn't have received the same attention as if it had been pressed in the USA (Americo-centrism even pe...

There's a classic metal song I used to wail along to that has a perfectly apt title. I just fucking forget what it is. :( It's "Revelations of...(something)".

Revelations of Steel?
Revelations of Death?

Goddammit...

Witchcraft & Burning Saviours

This forum is for new bands, so... I really like both of these '70s-styled bands. BURNING SAVIOURS is good, and their first album is much better than WITCHCRAFT's very calculated first offering. The new WITCHCRAFT album, however, is organic and perfect in a way that destroys all competition. When I ...

Re: Fongus (Mex) first LP

Still very interesting to see a 70's metal-ish record from Mexico. I love those dirty Mexican albums!! Hey man, cool to hear!! '70s rock of all kinds from Mexico rules!!! APOCALIPSIS from '68, EL AMOR, ROCK APE, EL RITUAL, COSA NOSTRA from '71, early DECIBEL, KASERTA, LA REVOLUCION DE EMILIANO ZAPA...

I love the demos and "The Key" & "Thresholds". "The Key" is of course the superior one of the two, but I think "Thresholds" holds up pretty decently. "Arctic Crypt" sounds like something the Gothenburg melo-death bands would churn out in later ye...

I don't like playing obscure stuff if I'm partying. Even my friends who are metalheads will want some stuff that's a bit more known rather than something unique and quirky. I find the best drinking music bar none is MOTORHEAD. Everybody knows the words, everybody can scream along drunkenly before st...

Oh! My three picks are: BLITZKRIEG - Blitzkrieg or any other early tracks (especially on the live tapes) SATAN - Trial by Fire JUDAS PRIEST - Let Us Prey/Call For the Priest I know metal got speedier, but in my opinion these are the sorts of tunes that really helped entrench what speed metal is. The...

Yes. Lesbian teens is such a turn-off  Is this the movie where the suicidal red/brown-headed girl ("Agnes"?) meets up with the rocker-like chick, and they end up kissing in some guy's car while trying to hitch a ride? I only ask because I saw this movie on tv a few weeks ago... It w...

WIDOW, LEGEND, STORMQUEEN, ARC, APOCALYPSE,... great records, all of them. Every cut on LEGEND's LP is great epic/doom metal, especially the last song with its heavy-ass riff and the first song with its amazing riffery (yeah, that's right, riffery). Only the country-ish rock song sort of lags. The d...

There is no metal market here in my city. Most of the rare '70s heavy metal records I've found are offered by ex-hippies at their store "Into The Music", and to top it off they smirk when you buy the stuff too.

If it is pieces of bloody steel thou seeketh, come not to western Canada.

I bought a sealed copy and a promo copy. Neither came with lyrics. :( Is it just me or does this LP have a lot of MERCYFUL FATE/CAPTAIN BEYOND attitude in the way it approaches its riffing and soloing? The way the solo glides over the riff when the intro riff returns in the first song is very "...
