I don’t know much about doom metal, but on the NWOBHM side of things, Nightime Flyer’s single reminds me a lot of Witchfinder General. Mostly just the B-side “Heavy Metal Rules”, the A-side being more along the lines of Black Sabbath’s bluesier stuff.

Just a comment to say Wargasm is awesome. I just have the tape of Why Play Around unfortunately. Can't even remember how many times I saw them play live (I live near Boston, which is where they're from). They were great.

Re: Super-rare/expensive albums that are NOT overrated?

MISTREATER - "Hell's Fire" LP 81 Doomish, ultra-HEAVY Metal/HR never got better. Except maybe for PENTAGRAM. Still, this is another one of those magic lost treasures everyone into Doom & early HM should check out, if only on CDR/mp3. Fuck the bootleg. Is the Hell's Fire/Swami CD on Me...

WIDOW - s/t LP 83 A nwobhm holy grail so not-overrated it's almost underrated. The stunning originality and eerie atmosphere is staggering. 100% agreed. I'll have to check out the other 3 you mentioned. Then again, my wallet is telling me not to! Legend (USA) from the fjords LP: well, yeah, ...

Btw, I always though the American originals of the 2 first VIRGIN STEELE LPs were on Mongol Horde. Am I mistaken? What label was that anyway? Only The Wait for the Night EP is on Mongol Horde. Guardains of the flame is on Music for Nations. I don't remember right now on which label was the debut. M...

All-female 80s metal bands

I saw in a couple of your reviews that you collect records by all-girl metal bands. I think it would be great if you did a feature on that. 8)

I first heard Nocturnus when I saw them open for Napalm Death way back in '91, I think. I was really impressed and immediately bought The Key which quickly became one of my favorite death metal albums. The follow-up was good too. More technical and better produced, which actually made me like it a l...

I'm almost positive that's all they released. I have Alien and Takashi, and while I love the Alien EP, I found Takashi to be quite dull.
