This means that anyone who doesn't buy your CD is not allowed to listen to it.. If I want to eat a sandwich I need to buy a sandwich...or steal one. If I want to drive a car I need to buy/rent a car...or steal one. If I want to use a software program I need to buy it....or steal it. So what makes m...

I guess what I don't understand is how most of us agree that to take a band's music and bootleg it without their permission is wrong. But if you do the same thing and distribute it for free that makes it ok. One is feeding the distributors pocketbook while the other is feeding the distributors ego....

from a HM musician point of view: whats the point of releasing 1000 copies of my new CD if the "fans" will donwload it 2 months after its released...in that case its useless to print covers, make cds and pay for my expensive cover art....new pseudo metal generations are losing values here....

Great post as well.... I figure if you are going to make a tangible item (ie. complete LP to download w/artwork) available to 1,000's of people, and most musicians truly want their music made available for free, contact them and get their permission. In this day and age of the Internet it's certainl...

If you ask 99.9% of the bands, they will tell you that people should hear it for free when they don't have the dream to become Metallica. They make music for people to hear in the first place. The fact that the record will be bootlegged is because of collector's stupidity and that only.if you buy reco...

Hey Rich, your questions/views are good ones, but let me make some comments from my point of view. I have too much music. I feel buried in records, but I'm not complaining of course. So for me I 100% need some sound samples/download, whatever anymore if I'm going to fork out the cash to add some mo...

Thanks for the reply.....One of my points was that if you post stuff that's not commercially available, that may prevent it from becoming commercially available in the future. For instance, if a band approached you to put out their unreleased demo tapes, which would involve a lot of work and monetar...

Money For Nothing & Music For Free

I lurk here more than post and if this has been discussed here in the past I apologize.....my brother and I were discussing this today and I thought it would be interesting to see where the members here stand on this topic. I ran a label for 20 years where, for the most part, I searched for unknown ...

No Boyd Bennett or Esquerita? Nah....Boyd is pretty weak..... BLASPHEMY! Well OK, 'heavy' doesn't describe 'em that well, or much of anything else from that time period. Sorry, I feel compelled to stand up for 'em; the King LP was one of my absolute favorites growing up; my dad played it all the ti...

Nah....Boyd is pretty weak......Eskew Reeder rocks but not that heavy.
