Italian Doom Scene (taking out the classix like B Hole and Paul Chain´s early and excellent works...) Maybe only recently it gets some hype, but it just can't be more overrated than '90s UK doom scene which really is a root of worst doom stereotypes. Also: Maryland doom. With few honorable exceptio...

DON from ex-Yugoslavia, kind of weird progressive/heavy metal with female vocalist. Have one LP, "Ispod maske" from 1984. Too bad they softened the record with lots of keyboards and saxophone to get the record deal, but these 3 songs are still heavy and good: Pajac: http://youtu.be/TgkyV2g...

Not bad? Actually good?
The disco overtones are rather natural, because everything was synth based except guitar and bass, and you can imagine how these drum patterns were back in '85.
Some more craptastic songs of this "band" appeared:

NEW FOUND GODAWFUL METAL DISCOVERY THAT DEFEATS ALL YOUR METAL ENTERPRISES CRAP: Right from 1985 and right from Yugoslavia (or hell?) - one-man heavy metal with synth drums - TEČNI KRISTAL ("liquid crystal"). And things can't be more bizarre than this - it was released as a tape album by p...

I like for real only their Sathanas Tedeum demo, but many riffs and the overall guitar tone on that album are awesome! Speed metal bands may learn a lot from that LP!

Worth pointing out: This album and most early Iron Works/Azra releases didn't have proper distribution in Europe in the 80's so many of us 70's-sters missed out on it when in our most impressionable stage, for the benefit of bands similar in style like AGENT STEEL, OMEN, SAVAGE GRACE etc... I just ...

Besides MANOWAR obviously, it might be that he was influenced also by NWOBHM bands who made some songs about Vikings (like SATAN's Blades Of Steel) or maybe even with THOR and his Viking novelty. He obviously wanted to take it in a serious, more deeper and conceptual way than these bands did after h...

Basically, all the "world class" bands which succeeded were those who were at right place in right time + had certain management behind the scene who did hyped 'em. That's the way how things go, and I'm always surprised seeing underground people who don't get that. You can be awesome, trul...

DeathMetalWeenie wrote:In the old magazines, bands would always say they practiced songs 4 hours or 8 hours day. Play those songs a million times live. Then it was easy to record a album that would survive the test of time.
I really doubt that, especially for underground bands who need to deal with daily jobs.

MIDNIGHT DARKNESS was very interesting. Heavy stuff with some melancholic vibe. Not so impressive vocalist, though.
