The only things I could even think to add would be Slaughter Lord and Renegade (they had a demo in 1985, though I've never heard it, Total Armageddon hits the '87 cutoff mark). I'm not sure I would put them on there, but they may be worth considering, unless they were already discussed and I just mi...

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/thaneros/nouvelle.htm For Open the Gates on that link there's a really colourful back-side with a tracklist for 'Epicus Doomicus' instead! I've never seen the Candlemass vinyl....is that really what the back cover looks like!? With the front cover still the black skull j...

I said that "you may not like Norwegian black metal and what it did to your precious sound", not "you may not like Norwegian black metal." Anyway, to continue to assert that everything in the Norwegian black metal sphere had already been done by Quorthon is ridiculous. There are ...

Unlike what you're talking about, the Norwegian scene didn't take metal and add elements from other genres (other than, arguably, classical). What Anthrax did and what many other bands do today is take metal and some other genre and put them on opposite ends of a rail line and let them smash into ea...

Err no, sorry I have to deny this. I dont hate the norwegian bands, I just mentioned (and I will say it as many times I've been asked) that in no way, those Norwegians created Black Metal. They did not create "Black Metal" as a concept no, but, you're still wrong as you claimed before tha...

...my ass! It's not a musical genre so much as it is an gimmick within the framework of a musical genre... Maybe it has become one nowadays, in the early 90s there were some bands that believed in what they were singing. I don't agree with the views of Vikernes, but I must admit that the guy did be...

"Black metal" was never at any point in time a purely musical movement to begin with. Black metal is and was always heavily invested in lyrical matters, which is why "un-black" metal is not black metal. It's not a musical genre so much as it is an ideology within the framework of...

They specialize in optimizing sound quality and packaging and authenticity, that's why their releases tend to be a bit pricier. I own the Excruciate, Utumno, Root, and 2 Sigh LPs that he released, and they're all very high quality and authentic to the originals. He even assures that the original alb...

Well I never purported to be a collector, nor do I respect the collector mentality. I'm a listener, and rarely does it make a difference if I'm listening to a reissue or an original, other than semantically.

What I'm trying to understand is how tracking down a record is like, a notable achievement in your life that you would write down in your autobiography. Like, "I graduated from Yale with a perfect 4.0 GPA and never missed a day of class, worked my own way through college, and am now a multi-mil...

Anyone can say whatever they want, but projecting an ambiguous image is something I have no respect for - if I feel people purposedly avoid mentioning whether they actually bothered tracking down certain albums rather than just downloading them then I have no reason to respect them IF this is prett...

Yeah, and you think Garm listened to Manilla Road while Fenriz didn't? The only person in that scene who doesn't seem to have had a deep history in metal is Varg. Most of the other guys were just regular old metalheads in the 80s.

Uh, there's a lyrical reference to Manilla Road on the Total Death album. They're by no means posers. Fenriz has always been very well connected to various scenes.

Is anybody aware of a Master's Hammer - Ritual CD bootleg? A friend of mine just got a copy of the 1994 Osmose version, and his copy doesn't match up with mine. The matrix on his is A0000016557-0101 71 A01, and it didn't come with an Osmose promotional insert despite being shrink wrapped. Is it poss...

Given the tastes of this board, it's really not surprising that so many people lean toward Show No Mercy over Reign in Blood, but to paint it as merely some kind of gateway album is utterly ridiculous, as though nobody could have a genuine appreciation to it. I personally consider it their second mo...
