Re: Changes in metal and hard rock popularity, community and public perception you have personally observed
Given the amount of fillers old LPs included (and new ones do too) I really do not think the singles over albums approach is necessarily bad. I think that's more due to the "an album every year/two years" standard from back then. That's where the famous "sophomore slump" usually...

Re: Changes in metal and hard rock popularity, community and public perception you have personally observed
. The first is that the younger generations are more likely to be fans of SONGS and not BANDS in general, so the cover bands play only the most famous songs from other bands This is very true all across the musical spectrum, but I wouldn't limit it to the younger generations. I feel like older peop...

Re: Heavy Metal from Argentina
DaN, yes this V8 lp is all tracks from the 3 albums. Thanks for asking though, because all I needed to be in a better mood was to crank up a V8 record. These guys were one of the best, total balls out metal. RIP Osvaldo Civile I think that around here the consensus is pretty much that V8 was the gr...

Re: Changes in metal and hard rock popularity, community and public perception you have personally observed
Well, cover bands is where the money's at. I remember watching a recent interview with the drummer/founding member of Monstrosity where he said that he makes a living playing in local tribute and cover bands weekly, and only on occasion would sit down and writer/record/play his own stuff, and that a...

Re: Changes in metal and hard rock popularity, community and public perception you have personally observed
The biggest change that I've noticed, and it accounts for any other genres with a "culture" attached to it, is a lot of homogenization. Back when I was a teenager in the early 00s, you could clearly see groups that were formed around what kind of music they heard, and whenever a band playe...

I didn't even know what "perler" was before this thread, but I love this kinda thing. I hope more people eventually join in.

Re: Lesser know 80's Doom...
Well, Doom songs can have fast parts in them, as well as Doom bands have some faster songs in the same way that Thrash can have slower parts or entire slower songs without falling off the genre (and anything that too strictly to whatever is considered a specific genre tends to be pretty uninterestin...

Re: Lesser know 80's Doom...
Btw, here's a fun idea: Who's up for a collective project of putting together a mix-CDR of one-off Doom/Doom'ish tracks from olde kült trad HM vinyls? I'm talking about "that ONE Doom track on the album"-type stuff, like for instance I was thinking about this because other than some big n...

Re: Lesser know 80's Doom...
Well, from the existing reviews I was gonna mention Dwarr, which tiberi already did, and from other mentions Paul Chain is an obvious one (I was pretty sure you had done one for the Highway To Hell picture disc), and Run After To, as Prowler just mentioned as well. From the odd ones, seeing that stu...

Should we just recommend "new" stuff to review and then include, or point out possible candidates from the reviews that are already there?

Re: Malaysia/Singapore Metal (...and vinyl)
For someone as foreign to Malaysian culture as myself, it's weird to read the fixation with ballads that seemed to have taken place in those early days of Metal, specially considering how much the most extreme underground subgenres thrived over there in the following years. I wonder if it was some ...

Re: What are your issues with "NWOTHM"?
Convenience strikes! I was just told a local NWOTHM act is having a release show for their debut 7" tomorrow. I'm going full gonzo on this one - arms will be crossed, frowns will be worn, notes will be taken. We wouldn't expect any less from the trve Keeper of the Gates in his shining red leat...
