Metal Massacre V LP 1984
Label: Metal Blade
#: MBR1021
SH 0015
Country: USA
Info: Considered by many to be the best of the series, this was also the first to feature European bands (FUTURE TENSE and HELLHAMMER). Released on CD by Steamhammer in 1988 and by Metal Blade in 1994.

(bold = exclusive track / normal = non-exclusive track / italic = non-metal)

Side A:
1. OMEN - Torture Me
Killer demo track that would not have been out of place on their debut LP. Also on 12 Commandments In Metal and later as bonus track on the pic-LP version released in 2005.
2. VOIVOD - Condemned To The Gallows
Love 'em or hate 'em, this is VOIVOD. Released as a bonus track on cassette versions of War And Pain.
3. ATTACKER - (Call On) The Attacker
Decent speed metal, though substandard for this typically excellent band. Different to LP, but you'd hardly notice.
4. FUTURE TENSE - Nightmare
Cool NWOBHM-inspired Dutch metal. Flat vocals, but the music more than makes up for it.
5. OVERKILL - Death Rider
Awesome early track from the New York thrashers.
6. FATES WARNING - Soldier Boy
Heavy stuff, even for John Arch era FATES WARNING. Different to LP.

Side B:
1. METAL CHURCH - The Brave
Typical high quality David Wayne era METAL CHURCH. This song later appeared on The Decline of Western Civilization Part II Soundtrack.
2. LETHYL SYNN - Destroyer
  Substandard US metal.
3. FINAL WARNING - The Warrior
Cool power metal like OMEN (though not as good obviously).
4. HELLHAMMER - Crucifixion
While I can appreciate their later work as CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER just sounds like a bad VENOM clone to me. Later featured on "Demon Entrails" 2CD/3LP from 2008.
5. MACE - Marching Saphroyites
Actually, the name of this song is Marching Sacrifice. Could have been a decent song but it's a bit too raw for my taste, coming off as crossover when it really shouldn't.
Very cool and dark metal with a Middle Eastern feel.
